It isn't because of the drive, as Geekbench doesn't take the hard drive into account at all. It's likely due to the memory.

Interesting. I was basing that assumption on Floodly's scores of 5927 with 4GB v. 6034 with 8GB in the same machine.

Yeah, that doesn't seem like enough of a boost to spend $100 to me.
Protools won't use more than 4 gigs right now so, I'll stay with what I have.

Just installed OWC 8 GB 1333 ram on my otherwise stock, base model 2011 13" i5. Thought I would share the geekbench scores (before and after) FWIW:

MacBookPro8,1 4GB Score = 5927

MacBookPro8,1 8GB Score = 6034

1.8% better... This benchmark did not show 8GB are usefull.

There's more to it then just benchmark tests. Real word usage, it's worth it for me.
