Hey there, still holding onto my trusty MacBook Air 11" from mid 2011. Any chance there are some upgrades out there that I could do to give it a little more life? Swap logic board? I'm aware of the SSD upgrade. Battery only has 240 cycles and works well still, at least as it did out of the box. Prefer the size and form. Just can't let go it. Thanks.

Depending on the specs, you could put a better logic board in it. For example, I have a 2011 11” 1.6GHz i5 Air with 2GB of RAM. I could swap in a logic board with an i7 and 4GB of RAM. Unfortunately these little guys are getting a tad long in the tooth these days. I still use mine regularly, but it’s been relegated to a writing machine. Good luck with whatever upgrades you decide to do; the little 11” Airs are still fantastic little computers!

I’d probably have to agree with the above poster, although maybe not that exact machine. The 2015 11” Air is still a fantastic little computer. I got an i5/8GB/256GB 2015 11” Air in practically perfect shape for myself last year off eBay for around $350. keep an eye on eBay for solid deals, and you can get yourself another 11” that will last you for years to come!

The 11” air is probably still my favorite laptop form factor, even today. It’s well worth getting a newer one if you still love it.

I have the year earlier model, and agree. It is an excellent computer.

Have a new battery and 500GB SSD on the way for one. It’s currently on El Cap, going to put High Sierra on it now. Is it worth it to use the patched version of Mojave?

Reviving my 2011 11" Macbook Air too, just installed new battery for it and contemplating a new SSD. Would a new SSD (OWC 6X) make a difference in speed and battery life? Mine is an i5/4GB/128GB, just had a fresh install of El Cap.

The new SSD would likely boost its speed a bit, although the biggest limitation these days are the GPU and CPU. These little Airs are still great machines for many uses, although I'd advise against sinking too much money into the 2011s these days.

Thanks for the response! You're right, I'll have to think if I can get 2 more years out of this machine, then it's probably worth it.

My wife still uses my 2012 11” MBA (with Transcend SSD upgrade) as her daily driver. it was my favorite Apple laptop ever.

i did upgrade my 2010 13” MBA a few weeks ago, with a logic board I snagged for $55 from eBay.
