I just upgraded my 2011 MBP to 16gb of ram. Wanna add the 512 Samsung 830, my question is the following. I have the original apple 256 ssd and I also bought the caddy to put he extra ssd on the caddy. Should I put the Samsung 830 there or switch the 256 apple to the caddy and the Samsung to the main bay?

Is it a Late 2011 or an Early 2011 Macbook Pro? I think only the Early 2011 have the SATA II in the optibay, the Late 2011's are SATA III

Will that slow the apple ssd being in the optibay?

Go to this link and download Chameleon SSD Optimizer. It lets you enable trim and do a lot of other SSD customizations without having to open up terminal and manually doing it.

This is true, but I will add that though my optibay is SATA 3, it's still dodgy with the SSD plugged in, beach balling, stuttering etc.

This seems to be true of a lot of people with the SATA 3 2011s, so honestly, play it safe and plug it into the HDD bay.

You can still plug your old HDD into your optibay, that works fine for me, but the SSD was going crazy until I put it in the HDD.
