I use my MBP as a desktop computer connected to my Dell U2711 running 2560 X 1440. While it's super nice, I've been eyeballing moving up to 4K. Will the 2011 MBP drive a 4K monitor through displayport?

2012 rmbp could drive a 4k display at 30hz and it sucked. The newest rmbp can drive a 4k display at 60hz if you're just coding or browsing. It won't run any games at 4k.

What connection do you use? I just purchased QNIX (2560 x 1440) monitor for my 2011 late MBP 15". But I can't seem to get 2560x1440 resolution. The maximum I can get is through HDMI at 1920 x 1200. With DVI to Thunderbolt connection, it gets 1920 x 1080 resolution.

I would appreciate knowing how you connect your 2011 MBP to Dell monitor.

Thanks.

You need an active MDP to dual link DVI they run about $100 at the Apple store.
