My old macbook has stopped working and I'm think of using some of it's part before throwing it. I've ordered a new iMac 27" with 8gb ram. Can i use the ram from the laptop? Also can i use the SSD as a external drive via USB to SATA connector?

No, your old RAM would be DDR3 and the new Macs have used DDR3L for some time. You can check yourself - the old stuff is 1.5V, new stuff is 1.35V. They are not cross compatible. If the SSD is removable and a 2.5" drive, then yes you can reuse it in an enclosure over USB 3

I tested the 1333MHz DDR3 1.5V from my Late 2011 MBP in my Late 2015 iMac. Worked without any problems.

Also no problems with the 1866MHz 1.35V iMac RAM in my MBP.
