Don't own an ATV as well as I don't have all my movie library on iTunes. To lazy to transcode all my movies...:( would take me weeks...
I use the plex app sometimes to watch movies from my mac on iOS devices!

Im confused, how could it be only 2011 MBP's? Why not 2010 too? Or 2009? Is it not the exact same iTunes?

SAME ISSUE!!
i have been having the same problem since either the update of itunes, or the update of the apple tv. i have a mid 2010 imac 27" i5. For the amount of money ive spent on apple equipment in the last year, i dont think its too much to ask that the equipment work as intended. Seriously reconsidering buying a 2011 macbook pro now

I see. So Home Sharing is merely enabling the sharing of playlists/watchlists between computers and hand/arm-helds. The computer-to-computer sharing has been around for ages (iTunes Preferences --> Sharing)

Actually, the person that told you it was streaming only is wrong. You can transfer files via Home Sharing.

Additionally, you have the option of automatically transferring iTunes purchased content (only purchased content).

I Was having the same problem. Here's my solution.

I was having the same issue with my Apple TV 2 Home Sharing w/ my early 2008 white macbook. I haven't had this problem until after AppleTV software update, iTunes 10.2.1 update, and iOS 4.3 update. I'm believe there is a software bug from either of these software updates.

Here are the steps I took to resolve this issue.
Step 1.) Put your Apple TV 2 to sleep
2.) Disconnect power cord from ATV2 and wait a few seconds (I waited 30 sec.) 3.) Plug power cord back into ATV2. Problem solved.

It seems like this is a software bug.

My solution to this problem was pretty easy

I've had this problem 2 or 3 times with my 27" imac (2009) and appletv 2g. Each time I fixed it by exiting out of iTunes on the iMac and relaunching iTunes. That's it. I tried putting the Appletv to sleep, but that didn't fix it. I have all the updates on all systems. I've also had only audio and no video sometimes, but I get it working by changing inputs on tv, putting appletv to sleep, or relaunching iTunes. One of those 3 seems to fix my issues.

I am haveing the same issue with my 2011 Macbook Pro 13" I7 and the ATV2. The ATV shows my computer but my library errors out when I try to access a folder. I haven't tried the Mac Mini yet. I was on the verge of calling apple but figured they wouldn't help.

just works

My just works. I like to know what routers you guys have. I have a Airport Extreme

In addition to Home Sharing, is anyone having iTunes not obeying subtitle sizes set by Subler or getting pixelated/blocky video (only in iTunes) on the new MBP's where the video plays fine in iTunes on a older hardware?

New MBP 15" same issues

I blocked out a few hours this past weekend for some Mac-related updates. I had a new Time Capsule that I set up first - all good. Then, I had a new Apple TV to set up (the small black one). I then wanted to watch some video content from my new MacBook Pro that I just got a week ago using Home Sharing. However - no dice and I eventually gave up Apple TV kept saying there was nothing in my library on the MBP. I thought it was because I had a couple of glasses of wine and I made some simple oversight - good to know that seems to be an Apple issue!

I've had these issues since day one with the ATV2. It's got to be software.

As for the solutions posted in this thread, I've done them all...they work. Occasionally.

The problems always seem to return though.

LOL All this OSX bashing is hilarious! Keep it coming guys! I'll be back to read some more after I figure out how to unf$%k my PC after that last (I mean every) windows update!

Definitely *NOT* limited to the new MacBook Pros. I have an early 2008 MBP, a 2009 iMac and Mac Pro, all are experiencing the same issues with Home Sharing. It works sometimes and doesn't others. Ironically I was going to contact Apple about this very issue to see if there are some bugs with the new iTunes. Seems like there are a few.

My experience:

Upgraded 2 ATV-2's along with iOS 4.3 on 2 iPhone 4's along with the 10.2.1 iTunes.

First attempt was very buggy. Mostly no sound, and unable to find messages.
Restarted my Airport Extreme.

No issues after with any Air Play functions on 2 ATV-2's, 2 iPhone 4's, and 2010 MBP i7, iMac on Airport.

No issues accessing any libraries on the iMac, MBP, and two wired Mac Pros into the Extreme. Going on 5 days now. :apple:

Two main computers in the house:
2009 Macbook
2010 macbook pro

Trying to open the library up on the macbook from the appletv is giving me some problems. It takes a while to connect sometimes. It connects to the pro right away. 'm not sure if the problem isn't the recent greater use of USB connected had drives with a hub along with increased use of the computer for activities like video editing and cloning hard drives that really make use of the CPU. Seems like the problem started at the same time but I also updated software on the Apple TV at the same time so how knows?

Anyway restarting the macbook seems to help.

home sharing is working perfect for me. then again I never really had any of the issues that come up from time to time.

turn home sharing off and on and restart all devices.....that should fix it for the new Macbook Pros....
