the processors in the MBP will be faster, and you can go to 8gb memory...something you may need as a graphic designer. The graphics cards are the same I believe, but you will have an overall better performing computer with the MBP. The MBA is only faster than the 2010 pros, not the 2011

Try searching the forums, there are tons of threads about this topic.

If you buy a MBP, customize it with a SSD as it will gain a lot in performance.
Also, the 13" MBA has a better resolution, and this usually is important if you deal with many windows. If you work with an external monitor, the MBP should be great... It's true its screen resolution is low, but it's fairly enough for a 13". Go to an Apple Store and try them out to make sure.

    Philflow--

The charts don't show the early 2011 13" MBP--are the panels in the 13" and 15" identical save for size? Or is the "Early 2010 MBP 13" a typo?

And how about mid 2011 13" MBAs?

As far as I know 2011 MBP 13" uses the same panel as 2010 MBP 13". Anand confirms the 15" 2011 uses the same panel as before.

As far as I know the 2011 MBA uses the same panels as 2010. There might be slight differences but I reckon the gamut stays the same: 77% vs. 47% (MBP vs. MBA).

    Ah--that makes sense! Thanks!

No wonder the MBA screen looks a bit washed out relative to the MBP. Pity we can't have both the color accuracy of the MBP and the resolution of the MBA!

I agree. Maybe the next MBP 13" will have both the resolution and the colors.

And again Apple cleverly gives us another reason to upgrade :)

I think that's unlikely unless the air gets something new – RAM up to 8 gb?
Cannibalizing is the keyword, but of course this is just my opinion. :)

I do some graphic design and I use a 15 MBP. You need the high resolution for all the toolboxes. If I were to get a 13MBP, could still get away with it only if I bought a nice external monitor...very viable option. I would NOT get the 13 MBA because the screen quality is bad (it has bad color gamut and poorer viewing angles, which means your colors will never look the same if you move your head an inch. Do a search on youtube and there is a guy who talks about how the 13 macbook air has really bad viewing angles. he is spot on.
