I would like to remind you that, with use, things wear out. While my 4 year old MBP is in great condition for its age, there are scratches, dings, wear, etc.

Oh yeah. As I mentioned on my first post, this is a "wear and tear".
So Im still in doubt that Apple will help me.
But there is always that one little kind person.

----------

Please do . I would like to hear the out come of this story.

I shall! I probably wont send it in (as I mentioned about my optibay...)
But I will give them a call and see their answers!

Why not delight in the fact that your machine shows signs of love? Brand new look is cold and lifeless. Would you take your car in to be replaced after the first ding or chip of paint?

Of course.
I take care of my computer and my car.
Wash my car every weekend, fix any dents or scratches on there.

Your MBP's aluminum coating coming off?

As you can see the coating of the MBP was coming off.
Some told me it was a "wear and tear" so Apple wont do anything about it.

But couple days ago, my 2011 MBP 17" died due to logic board failure.
I took it to the Apple store for the fix and I also asked if this
"coating is suppose to come off".
Couple Genius's took a look and told me this shouldnt be happening.

My AppleCare lasts till 2014 March so they told me if I come in for a repair by then, I could have the aluminum casing replaced for free.

Hope this answers some of your questions.
The key for the free repair is AppleCare.
As long as you are in one, they will take it for a repair.
Not just a "wear and tear".

It looks like it might have been corrosion.

It's anodized aluminum, so it can't 'wear off'. Regardless, glad Apple fixed it for you.
