I want to install 10.6.3 into a partition on my main 10.8.3 HD.

I created the USB drive like I have many times using the same thumb drive with different flavours of OS X in Disk Utility and System prefs even recognises it as a bootable drive in the Start Up Disk pane.

Boots into the grey screen with Logo but it just stays there and there is no flickering LED activity on the thumb drive.

It worked with Lion / Mountain Lion.

The 2011 Mac mini shipped with Lion on it. There was never a release of 10.6 that ran on it.

You can run 10.7 or later.

You can't run 10.6 on a 2011 Mac Mini. It does not have the drivers needed to run that computer.

The minimum version of OSX that it can run is the one that came preinstalled. I believe for 2011 based Macs that is 10.7

I'm trying to do something similar. Im using a 2011 mini, with 10.6 on a USB drive, and a blank HD connected via USB. I'm trying to install 10.6 onto blank hard drive, using mini. I restart holding Option key, and select my bootable USB when it comes up. I get kernel screen, with a bunch of CPU failures. Trying to install 10.6 to blank HD so I can place HD in a BlackBook. Not having luck installing 10.6 to HD while in BlackBook. Any know of any short cuts? Not to hijack you're thread, but we're searching for a common answer. ~Thanks

Sorry for double post. What if I partition the HD. Leave partition 1 blank. Place Snow Leopard image on partition 2. Place HD in BlackBook, boot up with Option held down, boot from partition 2 with image, and install that image to partition 1. Is that possible? Ive read into this more, a 2011 mini will NOT doing anything Snow Leopard. Period. No Chance. ~Thanks
