Hey everyone, so I have a buddy who is getting a 2012/2013 refurb MacBook Pro, and I'm curious as to what the OS support will be like on older MacBook Pros. I noticed that the 'Vintage' list on Apple's site goes to 2011, so does that mean that the OS after High Sierra wouldn't be supported on the 2012 MBP, and therefore it would have ~2 years of software support left? Or would it be longer / shorter?

I'm very knowledgable about the bleeding edge of macs, but this fading edge is a bit of a grey area in my knowledge. I'd appreciate any info anyone could drop. Thanks!

The vintage/obsolete status doesn’t refer to software support. At least not directly.
That’s more hardware related. Not to say that all machines that don’t support the newest os don’t have good enough hardware that they theroertically could. Just that enough features wouldn’t be functional enough that Apple decided it worth it or that it’s too untested by Apple.

But OS support typically extends beyond the vintage date.

Thanks. That was what I needed to know.
