5 picks of Brees (6 but one was called back for off sides) = record
0 TD passes for Brees = ended his games with a TD pass record

The Falcons continue to win even though they don't play particularly well
I'll take an ugly win over a moral victory any day

I still think the Falcons are the most fraudelent 11-1 team in the history of the NFL... They are poised for a one and done in the playoffs...

I think they will absolutely S***t themselves and go into the fetal position if they draw the Giants in their first playoff game.

I agree with the intent of your post, but I think you may be overstating it just a little. I think the Texans and 49ers are better teams, but the Falcons are still a legitimate SB contender.

I beg to differ

Here is a piece from Bill Simmons on Grantland yesterday

Atlanta is the worst 10-1 team DVOA has ever tracked, and it isn't even remotely close," on the Stunned Revelation Scale I was somewhere between "Lindsay Lohan got arrested again?" shocked and "Something crazy happened with Katt Williams again?" shocked. Their only three double-digit victories came against teams with a combined 8-25 record (Kansas City, San Diego and Philly). Their most impressive victories came against Denver (during Peyton Manning's Mr. Noodle stretch, when he nearly made up a three-touchdown deficit anyway) and a hot Bucs team in Tampa last week (by one point). They would have lost to the Redskins had RG3 not gotten hurt (and nearly lost anyway). They needed all four quarters to hold off the Artists Formerly Known As The Cowboys. They clawed out a miracle come-from-behind win in the season's most incompetent coaching performance by anyone not named Pat Shurmur (kudos, Ron Rivera), an and also came back against a pathetic Raiders team that has lost five games by 20-plus points this season. Most memorably, they barely squeezed by a free-falling Cardinals team on a day when Atlanta's MVP candidate threw an astonishing five picks.

The 11-1 Falcons will get the 7-4 Giants at home in 2 weeks on Dec 16th
Should be a good game and a good indicator for the Falcons

Falcons have a way of making good teams and QBs have a bad day this year
Manning and DEN had their worst day against the Falcons
Brees threw 5 picks (career high) and didn't throw a TD for the first time since Jr. High :)

The Falcons haven't always looked good and they haven't played their best game yet
But in this league, looking good doesn't count for squat, just win baby
And so far, nobody has done that better than the Falcons

I don't know what the playoffs hold this year for the Falcons
As I said before, it is all about who gets hot at the right time
But right now, I would rather be 11-1 than 7-4
The Giants have looked good at times, and they have look pretty bad at others
Who knows which team will show up for them
With the Falcons, you pretty much know what you are going to get

I beg to differ

Here is a piece from Bill Simmons on Grantland yesterday

  1. You need to beat who is on your schedule.
  2. A win by 50 points counts the same as a win by 1 point.
  3. Bill Simmons is overrated and makes me nauseous.

They also have a way of making so-so teams look a bit better than they really are. :p

And what excuses do the Giants give for these losses?

24-17 Cowboys (5-6) to a very bad Dallas team ATL beat
19-17 Eagles (3-8) to a horrible Philly team ATL beat
24-20 Steelers (6-5) to a mediocre Pitt team
31-13 Bengals (6-5) blowout to a mediocre Cincy team

Yes, the Falcons have had comeback wins... but did you hear that? WINS
They didn't lose to the bad teams, they beat them in the end

I don't know if the Falcons are the best team or not, I just know they are winning their games and other teams are not

The Giants, 49ers, Bears, Packers, et. al. may very well go farther in the playoffs
I don't know
I think they are very good teams and all are capable of going the distance

Hey Dallas isn't a bad team!

Again, nice win last night. Stepped up when they had too!

If the Broncos can hold Brees and the Saints to just 14 points, the Falcons should be able to do it as well.

Not to toot my own horn, but I told ya'll that Atlanta could hold them to 14 points. Brees threw 5 picks, and Payton Manning threw 3 picks in a single quarter against the Falcons.

I feel sorry for whoever started Brees in their fantasy league this week.:p

The Giants have way too much ground to cover. I would have liked to have seen a Manning SB this year but I don't think the little bro's team is on the level. There's just too much talent in the much stronger NFC for Eli to get there this year. 49ers could be better than last with new QB, Green Bay is still Green Bay, and leading the list is probably your Falcons. The best I could hope for is for your team to choke in playoffs to see my 49ers go all the way. You may have had narrow wins and some may criticize that, but the Falcons still scare me more than anybody else. Your QB doesn't have to throw for a ton of TDs when your defense shuts down the best QBs in the league. At this point the only team that will beat the Falcons is the Falcons and past chokes in the previous seasons will keep you hungry for the big prize.

I would think the Giants absolutely have a chance and you can keep your dream of a Manning SB alive. They did beat the 9ers and Packers already this year, both convincingly. Of course it depends on which Giants team shows up.

Personally I could care less if Eli gets in, I'm hoping Peyton does :)

Even though he is quite old, he sometimes looks like the same guy who threw all those 4,000 yard seasons in a row and at the same time could take multiple hard hits and seem to just dust them off. He was a human version of the terminator in those years with the Colts and was virtually indestructible. I am glad he's playing a safer game these days as is also the case with Vick, Brady, and other veterans. I think that lack of respect for the defenders come in and hitting you every Sunday caught up with past tough guy QBs like Steve Young and Jim McMahon. With an entire season out with neck and spine surgery, Manning can't afford to expect the same result when hit the same in the old days. This will always be hanging over his head. You can't be both a QB and a lineman and expect to come out unscathed. The saving grace of John Elway was he realized he could hand the ball off more, toss for small ball gains, and change up his entire style of play.

It's all about historical data. Both times the Giants won the super bowl recently they struggled and then got hot at the right time, when it counted.... Thats not to say that will happen this year of course.

and historically the Falcons have been great in the regular season beating bad teams that they should beat only to throw it all away when the lights are brightest in the playoffs.

I don't know perhaps this year will be different nobody knows I guess, but from watching their games I just don't see them beating a good quality team that gets hot for the playoffs. This great record is going to lull them to sleep down the stretch. They are going to have a team who is wide awake and has been playing for their playoff lives come in and steam roll them.

And I'm not a Giants fan by the way so this is just an unbiased opinion. (althought I did root for them in the superbowl but only because I hate all Boston sports teams with a raging passion)

I have been realistic about the Falcons expectations, and said much the same about the hot team, etc in all my posts above
I have just done it without feeling the need to trash another team

You're absolutely right. My apologies... I didn't mean to trash the falcons, they are definitely a classy franchise from their coach to the players. I would definitely like to see them and Matt Ryan get that monkey off their back. Ignore my skepticism and enjoy your team's success and playoff games.:)

Fellas

Cardinals vs Jets

If Jets win can they make a run? If Jets manage to lose what happens?

LMAO, Jets make a run. Tanny and Rex are running the most dysfunctional team in the league. It's time for Tanny or both to go.

Full disclosure: 39 years a Jet fan.

Fox News is reporting that a Chiefs player has shot himself and his girlfriend at Arrowhead Stadium.
