I think the winners will be: Broncos, Patriots, Falcons, Packers.

I'll be at the Broncos game tomorrow. Forecast is for a high of 19 with 5-10 mph winds. Wish me and my family luck.;)

Good luck with that. I was at the Redskins/Cowboys game and the temperature was low 20s with 10-15mph winds....so I know how you're gonna feel...it's not good. But so worth it.

I'll take...

49ers
Broncos
Patriots
Falcons

... but every one of these games could easily flip flop

I think the Patriots over the Texans is prolly the surest bet
But even then, stranger things have happened in the playoffs

didnt see that you were going to the game, it will be COLD there...

in lieu of this new information I'm changing my picks, I normally wouldn't do this

Packers
Seahawks
Broncos
Patriots

I like

Broncos - close game that Manning wins in the 4th quarter

Falcons - I went back and forth on this one, Seahawks are traveling east 2 weeks in a row but they match up so well against the falcon's strengths. The loss of Clemons is huge as that will give Matt Ryan time to throw. This one will be another one of those tight games that the falcons eek out at the end

Packers - It's hard to beat a good quality team with a great QB twice in a season. I'll take a pissed off looking for revenge Rodgers over first playoff game kapernick

Patriots - ugh as much as I hate the patriots I have to admit that offense is too much, I think the Texans keep it close in the first half but then the patriots pull away in the second half and win handily

Safest bets right there with what I have read except the Falcons thing is pretty evenly split on web.

Packers don't even need to be pissed off, I think they will beat my 49ers. Everybody, even me, counts out SF bay area teams and there has been no love for Giants, 49ers, or Warriors, but maybe it's the Warriors this time who will be the heroes of the bay in 2013. I fully expect SF Giants not be suddenly be 90s NYY and will probably do just OK in 2013, and of course, upcoming game in football will be a shining moment for Rodgers who will start looking like the QB he is, but he won't look the the 4 TD guy he is until NFC championship and maybe (likely) Super Bowl. Rodgers, I predict, will be Super Bowl MVP.

yeah ... him being the GM doesn't help either.

it is ironic that he originally was the reason they got turned around back in the mid 90's.

IIRC - they did have a lot of draft picks and what not to play with. the biggest thing they did was get troy aikman & emmit smith and a solid ass offensive line.

but yeah, he is Nero...

I think I'd like to take a road trip with you sometime bud just to see where on earth we'd end up :p

The cold is an advantage to Baltimore. Peyton has never played well in the extreme cold. He's also going to be wearing a glove on his throwing hand for the first time ever today. I'm expecting it's going to be a very close game and probably lower scoring than most people think. Temperatures in the teens almost always end up leading to a defensive game.

But I quoted your post because your 4 picks are what I'm going with too. Though I do think there's a chance that Baltimore will pull it off (and I'd love to see that ;))

My picks:

Patriots
Broncos although I can see the Ravens winning this as well
Packers
Seahawks

It'll be sad seeing the Ravens lose as I've always loved watching Ray Lewis play.

Actually, that would be pretty boring, really. I predict I will be watching Super Bowl and if Green Bay, who I expect to be there if it's the 104 career rated Rodgers who shows up, gets two TDs ahead of the AFC team by halftime, I may just go shopping for groceries. That short trip will be six blocks and many of my disgusted fellow 49er fans will just be killing time.

By the time I get back it will be beginning of 4th quarter, probably a two TD deficit for AFC team and the announcer being amazed at GB's time of possession and game will end up an Aaron Rodgers day.

The only way the Super Bowl could be close or truly interesting, imho, is if it ends up being Houston against Seattle both going for their first prize. They are probably quite evenly matched and it may come down to 4th quarter.

Who really wants to watch a Super Bowl if Aaron Rodgers has the thing sewn up 20 minutes into the game which can be the case?
With all due respect to your team, you guys are boring because you are too good. I so want you guys to piss in your own pants and beat yourselves today (anything can happen in playoffs) and see my Niners win. I just don't expect that to happen though. Who in ******* in the AFC is going to stop you...Pats or Denver with two old QBs who have had the easiest schedule in team histories (according to ESPN), or wait over the hill Ray Lewis with no backup from his fellow defense, or Houston with a slightly better than average team who is feeling the effects of physical injury in December? Not only is Rodgers the best QB of all time, by career passing stats, Fox says your 4 top receivers are the most productive in NFL history. While games are won by defense, I hope your defense doesn't show up today in San Francisco.

First we have California college boy Troy Aikman (UCLA) go off to Dallas, followed by Bay Area kid Tom Brady going to New England, then a guy possibly better than the two put together (but let's see next five A.Rodgers years first) who is also a Northern California product. I don't have love for Rodgers and even a mediocre GB QB could go all the way with your receiving core. While I too love guys nobody expected to still be playing like Lewis, Brady, and Manning, and it's always fun to root for them because they represent a time when things were simpler (or represent one's youth), the truth at the end of the day is that this is a physical combat sport with more serious injuries than both boxing and MMA, and the youngest fully acclimated QB with the talent, Rodgers, will most likely get through what is now an extended NFL postseason.

Right now, it makes for good tv ratings to talk about all the things that can go wrong with Aaron Rodgers but the times he goes all the way, like this year can easily be, then everybody will say they knew it all along. Look at all the years when Chicago won in the NBA and up the to moment Jordan helped lock it up, talking heads talked about how this year somebody was going to stop him. But when Jordan and the Bulls won, everybody said it was no surprise. It's pretty much the same way with Rodgers and with his level of play, often ten points in rating above next grouping of Rivers, Brees, Manning, and Brady, so it's surprising he doesn't have more Super Bowls but lingering on bench so long behind Favre didn't get Rodgers off to quick start.

I'm with you on the picks except for my Seattle Seahawks.

Number one pass rusher on IR. Replaced by a rookie that's pretty good.
Kicker on IR replaced by Ryan Longwell who hasn't kicked since 2011 season.
Marshawn Lynch DNP all week due to a sprained ankle. Listed as probable and will play.

Matt Ryan is going to pass right through the right defensive end.
If it comes down to a close game Longwell will be the deciding player.
and Seattle's much talked about rush is going to hobble along.
Barring some sort of miracle Atlanta has this in the bag.

You are MASSIVELY overrating Green Bay here, and you're underrating both Denver and New England. Both of these teams would beat Green Bay more than they would lose to them.

You write off Brady and Manning as "two old QBs". Yes, these two "old" QBs both had seasons much better than Aaron Rodgers did and were far and away the two best quarterbacks in the league (yet again). Nobody else belongs in the same category. Denver and New England have more talent at positions other than quarterback too.

Look at the defense-adjusted numbers (so you can't complain about easy schedules):

Brady: 35.1% DVOA, 2,035 DYAR
Manning: 32.7% DVOA, 1,800 DYAR
Rodgers: 23.3% DVOA, 1,444 DYAR

It's really not even that close.

It's also absolutely mind boggling that Brady was left off the All-Pro team. He leads all QBs in ALL defense adjusted stats and leads the 3rd highest scoring offense in the HISTORY of the NFL and he only gets 3 all-pro votes? What a joke.

It's obvious that Manning got the votes because of his comeback story (and he's the media darling) but it's crazy that Rodgers got in over Brady. The ONLY thing that Rodgers had more of this year was touchdown passes (39 to Brady's 34), but the Patriots also had 25 rushing touchdowns to Green Bay's 9, many of which were 1-2 yard runs to punch it in to the end zone at the end of a 80 yard Brady-led drive.

not really true though buddy. The packers coach gets very conservative with a 2 touchdown lead. Drives the packer nation crazy and always makes the game closer than it needs to be. anyway, good luck!

I disagree. Manning and Brady's numbers are inflated because they play in the creampuff conference... :stirsthepot:

That would be the whole point of using defense-adjusted numbers there dude.

Packers and Patriots were pretty damn close in strength of schedule at the end of the year too.. Packers opponents W% was .508 (129-125) and the Patriots opp W% was .496 (126-128), a grand total of 3 games over 254 total games.

Denver was a bit lower at .457 (117-139).

You might have that argument against Manning, but the statistical difference between Brady and Rodgers (11.8% in DVOA) is much larger than the difference between the Packers and Patriots opponents for 2012 (1.1%).
