Got my new 2017 27" iMac 5K and using my older 2012 iMac as a second display.

I have the thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter, and a thunderbolt 2 cable from that to my 2012 iMac thunderbolt port.

In order to make it work, I have to put the older iMac into target display mode (CMD-3)...each time the 2017 wakes up. It is kind of annoying.

Anyone know how I could keep the 2012 in target display mode, and have it wake in target display mode when the 2017 iMac wakes up?

It should work, as any Display, if you connect an additional Thunderbolt device (with independent power supply) between the Display/iMac and the Apple TB3 to TB2 adaptor: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/...140ff5d32b881f6111922ef89cc55ac67e3315f5e6a48

Quote: In addition, it can be used to connect Thunderbolt-enabled displays — such as the Apple Thunderbolt Display and LG Thunderbolt 2 displays — to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your MacBook Pro. However, using this adapter with an Apple Thunderbolt Display requires a power source, because the display does not provide power through the adapter.

I have a similar problem with a 2017 iMac and a Late 2013 iMac with Thunderbolt, and it doesn't work.
