Just picked up one of the 2012 base models from Best Buy. Was $449, but I'm just glad I can upgrade RAM and whatnot. Great deal here.

The back of the coupon has an online code. I picked one up at my local post office and had no issue using it online a couple of days ago for my Mac mini purchase.

Just picked up a movers envelope at the local post office. Yes, there's a Best Buy coupon for 10% off. But it clearly states for in-store purchase only. No online code anywhere. But I'm not complaining.

By the way, I'm starting to think the Best Buy sale price reduction of the 2012 I5 way beats any advantage of the much higher priced I7, regardless of the fancy processor it has. Most people would never notice the difference or use applications that take advantage of it.

That's not what mine says. There is an online code on back and it says in store and online on mine.

Exactly!

I got this one earlier this week and used it for a refurb i5 on BB.com on the 29th.

It has shipped and will be here Monday... There must be different versions out there.

Probably. Possibly. In truth, getting a quad will insulate you from that technological change that cometh shortly. A quad should insulate you for the next 5 years. That's my view. My Mini has to do a lot of heavy lifting and two cores turned out to be lethargic.

Yes for sure, I see that point of view. I guess it depends on how much you expect from it over the next 5 years. The only long-term negative might be that graphics card which is the same in both models.

Got mine last Thursday. They wanted to sell it to me for $449, but I talked them down to their "minimum retail price" of $399+tax  Went to 3 different stores total (they pointed me to a store that didn't have any), but finally found one that had a new in box 2012 still in stock.

but in that case only advantage of 2012 mini is user upgradable ram, 2014 mini has better single core performance, better gpu, 2 TB;) so no reasons for macrumors drama?;)))

Dropped in a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO in my $399 mini and I'm loving it. Decided against the quad core 2012 for my needs. Next will be upping the ram to 8GBs.

Drama? Advantage is cheap upgradable memory and BB sale price. Not much cpu performance difference between the base models.

Actually, speaking of performance - base 2012 mini is competing with midrange 2014 mini. Base 2014 mini is only competing for lower price, yet again it loses to base 2012 mini at this time.

Come to America for a visit and bring an empty suitcase. Last time I went back to Europe, I had 5 iPads and an assortment of other Apple goodies :)

That (5 iPads :D) or one of my many American relatives coming in Paris.

Lucky Europeans... free health care. It all balances out. Cheap stuff and no social system or expensive taxed stuff but you're covered.

Yeah, but don't employers provide employees with health insurance plan? When I was a research assistant at a US university, I had one paid by the university.

This is funny how I take this for granted! Dirt cheap for you guys, but I am not even interested at that price point low as $399. I was thinking maybe for $300-$350 I would have picked up a 2 years old machine. lol

Oooh don't get me started !! During my stay in the US, slickdeals was my favorite website :D When I came back to France, passing the security checkpoint at the US airport, I had to empty all my electronics from my carry-on lol

They're not dependent on an employer for health care, and the cost is minimal or none no matter what your status. Here without a job you're screwed.
