I'm expecting good F1 coverage will be gone with Speed and their crew, replaced by buffoon announcers who don't know the sport and get everything wrong trying to dumb the whole thing down for the uninitiated NBC hopes to attract. I am hoping that won't be the case.

Looks like SPEED itself will be gone in 2013, replaced with "FOX Sports 1" - a broad-based sports channel with NASCAR, MLB, Soccer, College Football and Ultimate Fighting.

Doesn't look like FOX Sports 1 has anything I'm interested in. Guess I'll be watching more Velocity. Wish BBC America would have F1 coverage. Anywhere on the net where you can watch F1? I too think that we will get "buffoon" announcers on NBC, unless they pick up Varsh and Hobbs.

I didn't see NBC mentioned as the new F1 channel. Is that a done deal? Am I missing something?

either way i think it means tape delayed races... which absolutely sucks. =(

still gonna suck. unless they use their sports channel... but i still foresee a lot of tape delays. *****.

If that the case people will find a way to find some channels that can do such good coverage for the F1. It's not just that it's the only one who can cover the whole F1 race you can be updated or you can watch the F1 event by other means. Not sure also that NBC will the one handling the coverage of the event, but hope that NBC or the FOX Sports would cover the F1 race, Hope that it will be a good result for us as viewers or as a fan of the F1.

terrible, terrible news.
the morning live races had grown to be a family tradition in my home, with my young kids becoming avid fans (culminated in a trip to montreal, and we were already planning next year's austin, plus NYC of course)
i also think we will lose both live practice and most of live races.

Formula One racing is recognized as the pinnacle of motor racing. It attracts large audiences at the race itself, worldwide television audiences, media attention, and a large amount of sponsorship.

I think it would had a big hit and a big effect for the local businesses.

not sure what you are trying to say here.

back to the Tv topic, it appears they will have 4 races on NBC and 16 on NBCSN, (similar to the fox/speed arrangement), plus all quali on NBCSN.
still unclear if they will be live or not, especially the late night races.

given the craptastic work NBC alway manages to set up for the olympics, and they apparent allergy for showing anything live, i am afraid i will be sorely disappointed.

as far as the announcers, i really liked the speed team, but i think they'll put togethera decent squad.
as long as they show me the races live, i am willing to cut them a lot of slack, at least for 1-2 years

Yeah, they'll probably get Derek Daley, who prefaces every call with, "Michael Schumacher, 7 time world champion..."

He has a bigger man-crush on Schumi than Machett. :p

Oh I miss those CBS broadcasts of F1...

...not.

Honestly, I'm hoping, if not expecting, NBCS will air F1 qualifying and races live. The audience is passionate enough to watch it live on SPEED for years and if SPEED thought they'd get more viewers showing it all on a Sunday afternoon (against NASCAR and NFL/College Football) they probably would have, so I don't really see NBCS changing things up.

i have seen NBC botching way too many olympics to keep my hopes up.

but in any case: channel 481 on time-warner cable (NYC) for NBCSN HD ;)

Most Americans have no real idea what Formula 1 is. Plenty of people who have seen my ALMS photos have called those cars/racing Formula 1. For many, anything that isn't NASCAR is F1.

I thinks that's why they want to do the F1 event here in america so that people will have idea bout F1. While like any sport, F1 racing can appeal to any kind of person out there, but there are definitely some people demographic groups that are drawn to the sport for more than others.

Bernie isn't bringing F1 to this country to educate Americans. He's bringing it to America to make money from TV rights, and because he's under pressure from Mercedes, Ferrari, Lotus (i.e. manufacturers) as the US is their largest market. Go to an F1 race and you'll see how little FIA/FOM really cares about fans, compared to ALMS, NASCAR, etc.

Hmmmm! I think it's true. And because of that some business will be affected especially local businesses.

HOW CAN FORMULA 1 RACE AFFECT LOCAL BUSINESS?

.....and Vettel wins!

Mclaren will go win this time! :p

NBC announced the broadcast team for their Formula One coverage next year:

Leigh Diffey
David Hobbs
Steve Matchett

Evidently Bob Varsha is still under contract with FOX / SPEED so even if NBC wanted him, he wasn't available.

No word on who will be the pit reporter.

HOORAY! on Hobbs and Matchett. Wish that Varsha was there too. Hobbs and Varsha are a pair that shouldn't be separated. Their chemistry is just too good. If FOX/SPEED still had him under contract and he wanted to go just wish that they'd let him for the good of us all. Not sure who Leigh Diffey is.
OK, I'm lazy. Anyone tell me what time the Austin GP is telecast and who's doing it? Fox or SPEED. Are the guys going to broadcast from Austin or from a studio in CT? Wonder if NBC is going to actually send the crew to the races and broadcast from there or follow SPEED and have them in a studio. Can't wait to see the race. The course looks great! Cheers

Not sure who Leigh Diffey is.

He's an Aussie who covers for Varsha when Varsha has to do Barrett-Jackson auctions.

All coverage is on SPEED. Free Practice Three is on right now. Qualifying is at Noon Central Time. Race is 12:30PM Central tomorrow.

Because SPEED has lost the contract, they decided not to send the team to Austin for the weekend so they are broadcasting from the studio as usual (though they were all there earlier in the week).
