Hey all,

Found a 2012 Mac Mini i7 for $300CDN and I'm tempted to pull the trigger. It would replace a 2009 Mini that's used mostly as an iTunes server, but I'm just not sure about such an old computer these days. Specs are decent: 8GB of ram and a 2.3 i7, and it's considerably cheaper than a 2018 model which is about $1000CDN.

Any thoughts?

The only worry I would have is whether it has an HD or an SSD. I suppose you could replace the HD with an SSD, so I would likely go for it. My church uses a 2012 Mac mini with an SSD and it’s quite a nice computer.

Thanks. Not too worried about SSD vs HD as a decent SSD is cheap as chips these days. Very tempting.

It's a steal, go for it.

I have the same late 2012 MacMini and I use it as a desktop machine, media server, backup server, mail server, video digitizer and for many other purposes. It has 8GB ram and from the memory pressure monitor, I see that I don't need any more ram. It has two internal disks in it. A fast 500GB SSD for macOS and a 2TB HDD for data files. Externally I have 2X8TB Seagate Backup disks and 3x3TB disks for general storage. All Minis came afterwards were less configurable and more expensive.
