Obviously the lowest official version for this machine was 10.8.1, but it has effectively identical hardware to the 2012 13-inch MBP that did ship with Lion (i5-3210m, Intel HD 4000) and I am curious to know if anybody has ever tried to install it. This Mac has FireWire which should make it easy to get it onto the drive, but will it boot and run normally? This is more so a curiosity than out of any genuine need for Lion, there are a few things I'd like to tinker with but not enough to buy a dedicated computer to do so.

I am not much fussed about the fact that the minimum version Apple says is 10.8.1, this usually doesn't mean 'that' much. 2008 MBP and iMac run 10.4 Tiger (think MBA too), late 2009 Mini and 21.5" iMac runs 10.5, mid-2011 mini runs SL, same with late 2011 MBP.

I had a few small issues (but no showstoppers) running 10.7.5 on a late-2012 rMBP with largely the same hardware. It is worth a try. I installed on a supported machine and deleted /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist.
The problems you mention in that thread are the sorts of things I was wondering about. Figured GPU acceleration would be intact but not so much Wi-Fi, sound, and Bluetooth. Luckily being a mini these things can all be added via USB. Did you port anything over from Mountain Lion that wasn’t specific to the rMBP, if you remember?

Just tried it and everything works except for Bluetooth. No issue with Wi-Fi or sound or graphics acceleration. Seems to sleep fine. Unsurprisingly it refused to install directly so I installed it over FireWire using a 2007 mini. Would be nice to have the Bluetooth work but can always use a USB adapter if really needed.
