Is there a way that I can raise the volume on the mini? I'm using external speakers, but every time I restart the machine, the "bong" is real low.

When I was using my iMac, the bong was pretty loud and not coming from the speakers.

Minis have a tiny speaker in them while iMacs have much larger, stereo speakers built in. There's not really a way to make that small speaker louder.

“The startup sound uses the volume setting of the built-in speakers. So if you do not have external speakers connected, adjust the volume of the built-in speakers and that will change the volume of the startup sound.

If you have external speakers connected, Mac OS X maintains separate sound volume settings for the built-in speakers and "headphones" (used by the external speakers). So you can disconnect the external speakers, adjust the sound volume of the built-in speakers, and reconnect the external speakers. The external speakers will still use its own sound volume. However, the startup sound always comes from the built-in speakers, so that separate volume setting will be used.“

Yeah, it does. But I assumed it would have a little kick, like the MacBook Pro's. They're about the same size. Oh well.

Thank you for the info. I did what was referenced and it's still pretty low. Bummer.

Thank you.

I don't think the Mini was designed with any thought of improving audio quality. My 2012 is quite tinny sounding.
