Theres no reason the base Pro should cost 2,499, something that old should be in the be in the 1,500 range.

The 12core got a $1200 reduction. But it still lacks USB3, TB, SATAIII and a modern GPU. Bad deal.

No; Apple are using dual 6-core versions of the dual 4-core core ones they had before. They cost $150 more and so Apple upped the price from $3,499 to $3,799. Can you get a 12-core system for less? Yeah., but the old 12-core models still cost the same.

Price of 6-core model dropped $700. Got one with the 5870 for under $3K.

Don't stare blindly at the price drop of the 12-core, the specs changed too

They dropped from 2.66 Ghz to 2.4 Ghz and added 6GB ram

The base Quad also got 3GB extra ram

    But yeah...
