Hello,

I have a 2012 11" MBA which I loved, however it has sustained damage from someone dropping it off the counter, and is not worth repairing.

I'm now looking for buying advice on my next machine.

I love the 12" Macbook form factor, but am aware it hasn't been updated since 2017. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it was updated recently with some of the higher specs or reduced price, so that's kind of out the window.

I have a 2018 13" MBP touch bar for work and enjoy it, but not sure if I should get another MBP for home or go with the 13" MBA.

I typically only use my laptop for web browsing, travel, watching movies / tv when necessary. I was looking at refurbs, either a 13" MBA i5 16gb/512gb or a 13" i7 MBP w/touchbar 16gb/512gb.

How big a difference would I see in the i7 bmp vs. the i5 mba? I just don't want to be spoiled going from a 13" MBP at work to a much slower machine at home, if that makes sense. Difference in price in the refurbs is $1529 -> $2079 ($550). I noticed weight difference is less than 1/4 pound, and form factor is near identical, minus the slight slope in the palmrest.

Thanks!

The i7 in the MacBook Pro will be significantly faster than the i5 in the MacBook Air. However, it may not be necessary given your use cases.

Thanks. I purchased the air, I’ll give it a few days and if I’m not happy I’ll exchange. The $500+ difference is enough to sway me for now. Thanks for the feedback!
