I replaced the battery last week and within a day, OS X stopped detecting the battery was present.

Resetting the SMC (unplugged battery, pressed power button for 5 seconds) appeared to resolve it.

But then it happened again today.

Is there a different procedure to prevent this from happening again?

Or is this a defective battery?

I bought the more expensive iFixit battery believing I would get a higher quality product than cheaper batteries on the market, but so far, this it has been completely unacceptable.

Waiting for a response.

In the meantime, I wanted to canvas the forum to solicit feedback, either good or bad.

Um... yea. Filed under form ID-10-T.

The only real way to know if it is the new battery is to get a replacement battery from them and see if the symptoms persist or disappear. Meanwhile, the only other thing you can do is go back to your original battery, and if the symptoms still exist, then there is something with the cables and computer than the batteries.

I'm about to switch back; if it's the "cable" as you say, it's integrated with the battery so in essence it's bad.

Don't think it has anything do with the laptop, but can't discount that until I swap in another battery.

I'm having the same problem.

2nd iFixit battery in a month with sudden sleeps or shutdowns, sometimes no battery status menu until a SMC reset, and no change in the load cycle count after a week of trying.

This was one of the results of the first battery:

It's bizarre.

I've wiped the computer, reinstalled the OS (Mojave 10.4.2), and had a suspect hard drive cable replaced.

Also had an Apple service provider run some diagnostics; but they found nothing else.

Only other things I can think of, are replacing the MagSafe DC-In Board or maybe it's corrupt firmware.

I got a reply back from iFixit a day later asking for reason for original battery replacement, macOS version, and symptoms (such as what happens when I unplug the power cord).

I responded that same day and haven't heard back from anyone since.

In the meantime, I had reset the SMC but kept the iFixit battery in; if it happens again, then I'm through and will ask for a replacement or refund.
