I did that already, look at my post with all the screenshots, Sunday was a regular calm day with normal browsing, youtube, etc and then Monday morning real heavy work, while on battery attached to a 27' Thunderbolt display with Photoshop, VMware, youtube, safari, screen sharing on other macs, etc, etc.

EVEN i am tired of searching on google for the same, desperately waiting for an i-7 11' REAL REVIEW !

Yep EVEN if i have one next to me together with an i5 too, unfortunately I need to work and i cannot do those kind of lab tests, I just want somebody to show me both results and comparisons and be done with it.

Unfortunately not even anandtech.com will do a comparison as they only have an i5

I HATE EVERYTHING..........i mean EVERYTHING........but my GOD, my new Macbook AIR is AWE - SOME

My new 13" macbook Air is the cats balls.

Im selling my older 11" AIR online, .........i almost cried with JOY on my NEW AIR

read write speeds are SMOKING......battery life is INSANE. PERIOD.

Off a full charge, I disconnected 3 hours 40 mins and had an external drive connected the entire time, restarted 4 times, and did NONSTOP heavy application installs (Office suite, Photoshop etc.), a total of 23 applications, and ran youtube vids in the background the entire time, and after all of that nonstop heavy loading, I had 76% on my battery, of which id have around 35% on my older Macbook Air.

Further still, the entire unit has run UTTERLY COOL during this EXTREMELY heavy loading, installing and heavy 1080P video graphics play. My other Macbook Air would be almost too hot to touch underneath near back under same conditions.

Even without 802ac (new Wifi connection thru the new Air), I notice roughly 25% faster throughput on likewise file downloads using my new Macbook Air than that of my older version Macbook Air.........

But something i really HATE...........are all the pathetic fools whining about "ehhh, it doesnt have a Retina display"....... well, it doesnt NEED a retina, not to mention that would KILL both batt life AND speed.

Unless youre doing pro photo or video editing, NOBODY NEEDS A RETINA DISPLAY.... period.

Here we go again, I just imported about 60 photos in to iPhoto and it is running in the background doing the "Faces" thingy and the fan is getting out of control plus getting hotter and hotter

11" i7/8gb/512

Have you tried the same thing on the i5?

I will, I'm on battery on the i7 and reinstalled everything from scratch included OS, I'll do exactly the same with the i5

My i7 is landing in Memphis in a few hours. I'm in New York. I'm optimistically hoping for an early delivery tomorrow, but I doubt it.

Hi everyone,

It's 6am here juste come back to work and I had a look on twitter. I found an other test quite good this one at least it shows clearly that the i7 is quite fare better that the version i5! That kind of test make me getting more an more ready for the final order :)

The only thing .. they wrote this at this end of the test :D

"""Check back soon for MacBook Air battery life results."""

Yep, I am leaning more toward the i7 now than every before after seeing the benches.

If battery is same or within a small %, and isn't a lot hotter. Think I am going with the i7.

While waiting the test about the battery I've started to think about an other indecision. In a other forum some people advise me to reduce my ssd memory to 256 gb and instead take the time capsule with the money save.

I have already an external hardrive of 1 T.

What do you think?

I've said that to other member too :p I like the idea of faster wireless speeds with the new WiFi Protocol, I have already an Airport Extreme but yes I'll put the $300 from the downgrade on the 512 to 256 towards a Time Capsule.

I realize 512 is a lot of hard drive for my secondary on the road mobile laptop.

Only one thing bothered me last night, I usually use the 11" in my lap, couch, office table, etc and I do not have a problem but last night I was working on my patio table where the patio chair is location sits a little farther than a regular chair on a regular table and the screen was bothering me and it was somehow hard to read as I was answering support emails from my customers.

The 13" will solve that issue and the extra 3 hour on battery life will put a stop to reading this forum threads for me but I really really really like the form factor on the 11".

Confused

Apple world seems to be very confusing. Personally I will go with the 13 simply because with the 11 my wrist go out the computer so i feel not comfortable with.

I have not experienced the wrist issue yet, my problem with getting the 13" is size, not about weight either but awkward square size while walking/carrying this thing around in hotels, airports, public places etc, then you open the lid and you have this huge tall screen where you will be hiding behind all the time, it is basically the same as my 2011 Macbook Pro but thinner, that's what I love about the 11" the footprint is perfect.

And considering that it's gonna be my main laptop (only one) and that my other desk computer is a mac pro from 2007 without any wifi do you still advice me to take the airport time capsule instead of 512ssd?

More information to share about the i7/8gb/512

I went on battery last night at 8PM and did normal work for 4 hours, opened Photoshop twice to export a couple of jpgs, imported 60 photos in iPhoto (the fan got crazy with Faces detection and it was hot as a volcano), installed Vmware fusion and Win7 from a shared Mac mini dvd, and then safari browsing and a lot of email replying to customers.

This morning I opened the lid at 8am and now is 8:30am and I have a red battery indicator with 1:30 hrs left and I'm just doing very light safari browsing (no flash installed on this machine).

A little disappointed about this test on the i7 and I'll do the same on the i5 today.

Confused

How will it solve that issue with it's just 7 less DPI?

(Can someone please translate this sentense in correct english? :X)

I want to think the i7 likes to get into Turboboost speeds a lot more often than the i5 causing the TDP on the cpu to shoot up more often than not.. You just need to weigh whats more important - battery life or 20-30% more CPU performance.. For someone like myself that has a crazy fast 17" laptop, I just do the heavy lifting on that and have the Air for the lightweight, long battery life.

I actually never understood the i7 market for Macbook Air.. The i7 model isn't enough to make the difference from a power user machine and a non-power user.. I'd be worried to try and encode a 1080p video on my MBA using Handbrake thinking the heat may just destroy the unit.. I always freak out when the fans kick in because its such a small/thin device.
