Having had only experience with matte monitors, including my current (ageing) MBP 17" 1920x1200, I'm wondering 'how glossy' a 2013/14/15 MBP 13" screen is (compared to, say, the older MBP screens)?

It's very glossy since there is a sheet of glass over the screen over my late 2013 13" MBP.

Similar to an iPad (mini): glass, but not very reflective (depending on the light source and angle)?

I would say it's not as reflective as an iPad but still fairly reflective. I try not to have any direct light shining on the screen.

    Personally, I like glossy screens.

Had a look at a friend's 2011 MBP 17" and found its screen very/too reflective for me and, subjectively (as I didn't have it with me), quite a bit more reflective than my iPad mini. Are the 2013/14/15 MBP retina screen less reflective?
