that has nothing to do with what I wrote - read the thread!

it does in the sense that the OCD comment was the result of OP wanting to open the box and inspect it...

But yes, you are right it has a lot less to do with an idiot making fun of a serious illness, regardless of whether one has it or not.... (I just did not deign to comment on that part as that was pretty self evident...) But hey if your moral compass is experiencing some "technical difficulties" i very much doubt that anything i say can set it straight... what do you think?

So it seems I dont have to worry about the SSD. The screen brand is really the users preference and some prefer the LG and others prefer the Samsung.

In terms of preference outside of known issues, those users are clueless. Displays by their very nature are not perfect replicas from one to the next. I understand the concern when it actually looks bad, but nitpicking which one might be 5% better is an exercise in futility. What I dislike about the Air screens would be native color temperature, reproduction of saturated colors (it won't fill sRGB), slightly wonky gamma, and most of all viewing angles. The rMBP is better if you get a good unit, but none of these compare (yet) with what can be purchased in a quality desktop display.

The screen "issue" if there ever was one, was blown out of proportion. Most people don't notice a difference; if you have color issues, use a hardware color calibrator.

It's possible to run into more problems with those when used on cheap screens. They adjust things in a very indirect way, and those panels are probably only 6 bits per channels with dithering already. I wouldn't want to mess with the profile too much at that point. If I intended to reprofile one, I would just go with native settings wherever possible, like native color temperature, native gamma, just measure display as is and output profile based on that.

Why would you feel sad for the apple employee? Not like they get paid on commission or spending an extra 15 minutes and having to scan more than one box is really not that hard.

They are not volunteers or work for free....

Retail staff earn minimum wages and are expected to do back flips for customers all the time no matter how ridiculous their demands. I don't think what you're doing is reasonable or rational and I feel the staff are being taken advantage of by you because you know they have to smile and be polite no matter what you want from them.

I am about to buy a new 2013 Macbook Air 11" i7 512GB before my next business trip.

When I bought my 2011 MBA, I remember that one of the SSD brands were slower than the other.

For the 2013 MBA 11" i7 what should I avoid?

SSD Brand? Is one faster than the other

Display Brand? (I think I remember reading something about the LG hurting peoples eyes?)

I will mainly use it for travel. I will use it for light video editing and light web graphic design work.

Thanks and appreciate the tips :)

In general, going all flash storage is much faster. HOwever, SSD is cheaper. For display, one kind, for $100, is anti-glare.

Do you actually have OCD? No? then yes, we would make fun of you if you were in a wheelchair, but didn't need to be.

I am not in a wheelchair, but need to be.

I dont have OCD, but would like it someday :D

Back flips? lol

They get paid by the hour. If I dont come in or if others dont give them ***** to do... they wont have a job!

Too funny!

Maybe next time I go to a retail store... I should instead ask the employee to sit down while I do their job for them? haha

i remember people like you in school...they would throw trash on the ground and excuse it by claiming it's the janitor's job to clean it up.

To be clear, I see nothing wrong with returning an item because it's defective or even simply because you decide you don't want it as that's the offer Apple extends. However I have to agree with iLuvMyMacToo on this one...

Never the less, as that's their policy you are entitled to take advantage of it. But while they are obligated to honour that policy, they are not obligated to sell you another one so sooner or later if you are really simply opening one box after another until you get the configuration you want they will refuse to sell you another one.

This kind of behaviour drives prices up for the rest of us and your attitude justifying it makes it fairly clear that you don't understand that "doing their job for them" isn't the same thing as simply avoiding making things difficult for others.

I am behind you and iLuv as well. there is a lot to be said about the fact that retail employees are being super exploited.... And it has nothing to do with them having a job or not, considering yourself the benevolent blessing of the heavens for buying something - thereby indirectly contributing to someone's salary - you need to always remember that you contribute way more to the people that determine the crappy wage relative to cost of production and profits...! So be nice to the people working in the store, they are not your personal slaves....

that being said if the customer is nice about it i does not have to be a bad experience for the employee...

They don't get commission so its not like their time will be wasted. but being a prick about anything, and not being considerate, is just bad life-policy....

Whoever told you 256GB are made by Samsung was wrong, cause you might as well end up with a Sandisk. My first MBA came with a 256GB Samsung. I replaced it because of a faulty screen (it was a samsung display as well) and got a 256GB Sandisk with an LG screen. There is absolutely no difference in terms of performance, so getting hung up on some benchmark numbers is idiotic.

As far as screens go, regardless of what you get, you are getting a horrible screen by 2013 standards and you're gonna have to live with it or buy something else.

I really don't understand these kind of questions. Ultimately, you are buying a computer for yourself, because you hope that will increase your productivity and provide entertainment. Not because you want to be cool on macrumors forums and be able to say that you got a brand that is more widely recognised as "better". In fact, this silly LG/Samsung screen thing has been neatly resolved in one of the threads here. The Sandisk/Samsung issue I can't even bare to comment on. Just get over yourself and get the thing.

Now you are just being dumb. Yea... thats totally the same.

You wont get it cause you are stuck in a job mentality and feel the customers should work for you and not the other way around....lol

Wow! you are sooooo smart and I never thought of it like that! I will never return another apple product so that we can all get Macs for hundreds less!

Thanks :D
