Dear all,

I just got an 2013 MBA 11'' with i7 and 8g ram. When fully charged, it is showing that I have 6:42 hours left. Is this normal? or is there any problem with my setting? I only opened a few webpages. It is claimed that the i5 model could last 9+ hours. Does an i7 necessarily cause such a dramatic reduction in battery life? Can anyone using the same model share some experience?

Thanks very much!

Actually, it's claimed (and verified on this forum) that the i5 gets 12+ hours. The i7 is claimed to have 9. A few people have seen that the first charge or two doesn't last as long, but once the battery is broken in, the extended time comes. It acts much like a new cell phone, which is understandable since they both use the same type battery. Just hang in there for a few charge cycles and if it doesn't get better, return it.

I have a base 11 i5 256 and its also said 6:56 after the first charge. It's charging now but I hope it gets better. It lasted a total of 5:30 after the first charge.

What the heck? That's about a 40% drop in battery life compared to the advertised specs (9 hours). That's unacceptable. Maybe get it replaced?

I suddenly find that that's because I'm opening an downloading tool. Once I closed it, the estimated battery remaining jumps to 8:20 hours. That's pretty close to the 9 hours claimed for the i5.

Were you opening any applications which make intensive use of battery? I was in the same place as you before. But when I closed one downloading tool the estimated battery life shoot right up.
