    Hello,

I just bought a 2014 11 inch macbook air, coming form a 13 inch macbook pro retina, I noticed that the bottom near the vent gets pretty warm, I'm only doing web browsing. I'm thinking it's the design since it's so small and th event is actually very close to the hinge, whereas on the 13 inch mba and mbp it's a little more spaced.

Is this normal or should I return it? It's definitely warmer than any computer I've had.

MacBooks are always going to feel warm, because of the aluminum body.

Not much to worry about unless your CPU is always at 100+ degrees. (Check with SMCFan or iStat menu)

The fans kick in and my 2013 11" MBA gets warm when I do things like render video in Final Cut Pro, rip DVD's in Handbrake, Record for a long time in Logic Pro, etc. But I wouldn't even call it "hot", just "warm".

Now I also have an old 2008 15" MBP, and that computer gets really hot, to the point that it's unpleasant to have on my lap. Running Windows on that machine in Parallels makes it hot as a pistol. #

I had a 2011 13" MBA, and I'd say that definitely got hotter than the 2013 11" MBA.

I've notice that my 2014 11" Air runs much warmer than my Late 2013 rMBP according to iStat. I think its normal when everything is smashed a little closer though. No worries on my part.

I'm not really sure how you guys are defining warm but for what it's worth, my june 2013 11" almost never gets warm at all and the fans come on even less often.

Same. The only time I've had the fans come on is when I've airplayed video to my HDTV.

I rarely feel like my 2013 11.6" MBA gets anything near warm....
