I'm interested in opinions here..

My cousin is interested in a deal on a 2015 15" base model (she really only needs the 2.2/256 model)...
I assume the values are finally heading South to where they should actually be based upon the hardware/age, and the 16's releasing and fixing the keyboard problems.

Assuming a pretty "mint condition" one...

What would you all pay for one of those now?

What's too much and/or fair?

Totally base model?
Condition?

Did you actually net that amount or was that just the sale price and there were fees and shipping, etc?

Total base model, mint.

I netted $970 after Swappa and Paypal, but don't see why that matters - buyer still paid $1035 and I could've netted it all had I sold locally.

Macofalltrades is offering $750 for that model on trade in, and I needed to accept the offer and ship the machine by Friday, so I priced mine for a quick sale and it sold in 48 hours, only listed on Swappa. Could've got more if I wanted or waited I suspect.

Thanks for sharing.

It's not that it matters, but it helps in negotiation depending upon the way one is buying
(CL/local vs online where fees are in play for one/both sides)

I'm curious if that's true or not..

I'm noticing that Ebay and CL are starting to get *flooded* with these machines as more and more people likely decide that the 16" is finally "the one" to upgrade if you'd been waiting, you know?

I think patience might be a virtue for my cousin on this -- I'm going to end up being the "buyer" though, as she doesn't run in these circles.

@Nacho98

How you loving your 16" (vs the 2015 15") anyhow?
Anything that feels like a lateral move (or even less appealing)?

Right, now is the time to sell because the 16" is finaly the one to buy for the first time since the 2015. Prices will drop soon as it makes less sense to buy one.

I love it. While the end experience is pretty similar (basic uses), it actually feels like less of a lateral move than I expected. It just looks a lot fresher too in comparison, but I love the brighter screen, slight resolution bump, the new keyboard, and just the general fit and finish - very happy.

Depending on overall condition (also pending the battery cycle count) I would say you should be in the $600-800 range. I recently just purchased a 2015 2.8 i7 16gb RAM and 1TB SSD and AMD dual graphics for $1100 on eBay. The computer also just had the battery replaced by Apple, so the cycle count was at 0 and is in absolute mint condition and looks brand new.

Thank you - I agree - that does seem fair.
A lot of what I'm seeing so far is pretty overpriced on Swappa.

A few base models that are admittedly "mint" and low cycles, but c'mon - asking $1k+ for a totally base model? No way..

I've looked on Swappa for MacBooks before. It seems that people ask a bit more than other market places. The thing with them (similar to eBay) is you can accept offers based off of the asking price. I find that its a little more reliable than going through eBay, but as long as you take the time to browse through eBay you can certainly find good deals. I recently had a friend locally selling the same exact spec that I purchased for $1800. I highly doubt they fetched that number. Take the time to find a reasonable person just looking to offload a computer they don't need anymore for a fair price. It will require a bit more research and attention to detail, but well worth it to get something for a more than reasonable price. Now with the 16 inch MBP, I find that the 2015 models may be a bit less desirable. Also, make sure you're buying from an actual person on eBay. Not an eBay store. They often ask for quite a bit more and also don't believe they're thoroughly inspected.

I have one I may be putting up for sale here pretty soon. Mint condition. New Screen installed by Apple. 74 cycles on the battery. If you're interested, PM me.

@Nbd1790

Good tips, thank you.

It gets frustrating on Swappa as too many people take negotiation "personally" or are pissed because they bought a 2015 model in the last year/two at pretty inflated prices and their minds are in that mode vs where the market now is after the 16" released.

I know if I'd had a 2015 all Fall, I would have been selling it because the 16" was well sourced and rumored for many many months. Waiting until it's out is not a great strategy to maximize your resale value (obviously)..

Well, other people are still ok paying those prices, proven by the sale of my own base model yesterday at north of a grand. May not last much longer, but mint ones with low battery cycle counts ARE transacting at that price, at least for the moment.

The 2015 was that good, and still is.
