My new (well, refurbished) 2015 15in MacBook pro has started to slow to a crawl when I export using apples 3d text plugin from FCPx. Anything I do while rendering (sharing) is super choppy. Im running the MacOS 10.13.2

This is the 2.5ghz i7 with 16gb ram version. Rendering is being done to and from the internal SSD.

Any ideas of what i might try to fix this?

Hmm, I don't use FCP but normally when you hit 'Render' in an application, it pushes it to the CPU. In my experience, it wants to use the CPU to get through this task quickly, and so will use all of the CPU. Check activity monitor whilst it's rendering but I'm assuming it's just using the CPU and so nothing else on the system is able to work efficiently. That's if you're rendering and expecting to go browse the internet whilst this is happening? Or are you saying after the render everything is choppy?

It helps to have your video clips on an external drive

Tried this, no change.

Even if its just background rendering the entire system slows to a crawl. Just typing this message is a pain.

Definitely not what i expected when i upgraded to this new machine.

Did you check AM as I suggested? I still think it's just using 100% of your CPU (Which it should do) to get the task completed.
