Hi guys,

My late 2015 iMac has pink edges on the screen. Less visible with dark mode.

Is this a problem? Or just pink edges?

If it keeps working I don't really mind, but if it's dying, I'd rather know.

Thanks

My Late 2015 27” iMac has had the discoloration for two or three years. I think it’s very slowly getting worse, but the machine works just fine. As long as you can put up with it visually, don’t worry about it.

It is a very serious problem.
It irritates you, causes discomfort, uneasiness etc. and demotivates you.
If your job requires color accuracy, this is a nightmare and absolutely unacceptable condition.
If you want to sell your iMac, it degrades the sellable price.

The iMac is not dying, just your brain cells are.

I think you are describing what is called image retention. I have a 2017 iMac (27-inch) with the same issue, although it didn't occur for the first few years. I originally owned a 2015 iMac which Apple replaced under warranty for the same issue. 😒 Nothing changes with Apple... so many faulty products.

I had moved countries by the time I noticed the problem manifest on my 2017 iMac, so I wasn't able to make a consumer law claim.

The edges of the display show a faint pink strip, and looking closely I can usually spot the remnants of macOS window controls in the top-left corner.

I also think it's getting slowly worse, but my iMac otherwise works fine and hasn't inhibited my use of the machine for the past few years since I first noticed it, so I am not too concerned.

I had iMacs where a yellow gradient would slowly emerge from the edges which was tolerable.
It sounds silly but have you tried a PRAM reset?

Had a 2009 iMac with pink stripes all over the screen which would disappear after that.

AFAIK, it's a hardware defect. The LCD panel still has pink edge when assembling it with an LCD driver/test kit, which means there is nothing to do with the computer part.

Yes I tried everything. It's a hardware thing for sure. Probably too many hours with screen on...

Known issue. I had mine replaced 2 times with apple care, second time was better but sold it in the end.
Have a 24" for 18 months and no pink tinge.

My 2014 iMac 5K developed a similar thing. Discoloration around the edges, and then some really bad image retention that got worse and worse over a few month period until I finally got it fixed. Fortunately it happened just on the right side of my AppleCare expiration and I was able to get the panel replaced free. I went on to use that replacement panel for a couple more years, I believe, and it was fine.

Hi
I work with 2015 iMac's , i Repair and upgrade them and the retina LCD's will ALL go pink. I have observed this in the 2015,2017 and the 2019 models 27" and 21.5". This is an issue which apple have not gotten past on those models, i'm not sure about the 2020 as i have not had a pink one on the bench yet or the 2021's. A friend of mine recently purchased a 27" 2019 and i simply advised him to sell it on before 3 years are up otherwise there would be the first signs of the pink hue appearing. If you are in a fortunate enough position to be able to get a new mac on release then this need not bother you, however if like me those kinds of purchases are treats and only occur every now and then i would say go with a non retina option otherwise you WILL end up with a pink LCD.
