Looking for a laptop to bring around and a friend of mines is selling his for $700.

It's the 2015 model with 1.1GHz/256GB, about 30 cycles of battery, and zero scratches/dents.
Comes w/everything including box and was purchased this past June, so there is still warranty.

Price wise, is $700 a good price for a 2015 model?

Yes, it's a good price. You're probably not going to find a better deal. But, make sure you're happy with the performance, as that's the lowest end rMB ever made.

Like stated above, great price, but make sure you're okay with its performance!

I have base 12" 2015 and got 10% off when it came out,

was worth it / continues to be, ymmv.

I heard the thermal throttling on the 2015 is pretty heavy compared to the new architecture of the 2016 CPUs. Can anybody confirm this?

I have a reburb get it cheap 2015 5Y-31 purchased July and it accuracy manufacturing June, and a M5 2016 purchased May,
5Y31 can run at continuous around 1.8-2.0Ghz and 6Y-54 can run at continuous around 2.2Ghz,
I thing no difficult between two, mostly M5 fast about 10-15% when intensity, but mostly web browsing is hardly feeling the difficult between two.

But some people feeling the 2016 is much much faster that 2015 one, as i don't feel so much so.

User of a base 2015 rMB here. Battery life is excellent when doing normal stuff like browsing, looking at lectures and open word file. Yes the 2016 model is an improvement, but I've only seen 10/20% improvements.

You have to remember, this isn't a high end gaming machine, so a 10% difference probably equates to you getting 2 or 3 more fps or something in a game.

P.S I would go for the brand new $799 purely due to AppleCare. $99 dollars for a year of warranty is good, and you can extend it for another 2 years.

if you look around, like i did, i got the 2015 rmb with 512 ssd for 849. factory sealed at a local b&m store. they wanted them gone. so it came home..lol. as for thermal throttling,, i put mine through a stress test for 2 hours and it stayed at max cpu with out slowing down at all.

whats the b&m store if you don't mind me inquiring? great deal,

someone who doesn't need the storage though, I'd say the 700 is a sweeter one.

my local Micro Center had them for 849. i checked the stores website and found that price.
