My MBA trackpad has been acting peculiarly for awhile now. It almost seems like the center of the trackpad is becoming less sensitive to input. When I select the previous page, next page arrow, it sometimes decides I really want to customize the page! And sometimes it seems when I am left or right clicking, it won't do anything until I move off the center of the pad. Is this an indication of an upcoming problem?

That sounds like a job for the Apple Store! Unfortunately the Apple Store is closed until ? and I am quarantined until probably some time next year, the way it is going.

It's incredibly easy to remove the 10 bottom screws to look at the battery.

Is the trackpad difficult to press?
No, not difficult to press. It just seems like the cursor is extra sensitive to where it needs to be placed to induce the desired response. And back to removing the cover, doesn't that require some special screwdriver?

I had a similar issue with my 2015 11” Air. The center of the trackpad was getting erratic with movement, sometimes lacking sensitivity, sometimes being overly sensitive. It ended up devolving to a point where the cursor would flail around on its own for a few days, then the trackpad completely stopped working. Battery was 100% fine, the trackpad itself just gave up the ghost. Got a replacement on eBay for $20, swapped it in, and it’s been working fine ever since.

There is a center screw that adjusts how much play you have on your trackpad. Sounds like you need to adjust the screw. Take a look at the trackpad replacement guide found on the ifixit website. Link provided below and then go to step 10 to do the adjustment. This guide will list tools you will need to do the work. If you don't have the tools you can easily get them from this website as well.

It is very easy for you to do this yourself. You don't need any Apple store tech to do this when you can save the money and do the adjustment/repairs yourself. It is not hard to do... if your trackpad is faulty then that is also easy to replace using this guide.
