Hello guys,

I’m considering to buy an used 2014 or 2015 MacBook Pro but I’m really concerned about this « staingate » that affects so many MBPr units.

Can you please help me to know if there a very effective way to fix these stains by ourselves ?

Apple still has this 4 years replacement program, but if I buy a 2015 MBPr that will start showing the problem next year right after the program end, I’ll have to fix it by myself.

I saw on youtube some guys cleaning their screens with some liquids in order to remove the « glass coating », like this :

But isn’t harmful for the screen ?

Thank you in advance !

Greg

PS : Please don't advise me newer MBP, I tried them and I really dislike the butterfly keyboard that is painful for my fingers.

Just don't become obsessed with having a perfectly clean screen. And don't eat or heaven forbid, smoke around the thing. Do that and you should only need to clean the screen every few months. Use a microfiber cloth with a little water if necessary. DO NOT go over and over trying to get every little mark or speck off.

Let's get this straight.

You don't even HAVE the MacBook yet, is this correct?
If so, stop worrying about it.

The BEST insurance:
Buy an Apple refurbished 2015 MacBook Pro (assuming they still show up at the Apple Store, they may have stopped carrying them).
You'll get a 1-year warranty, and the screen will be covered under Apple's "StainGate" replacement program.

If it's a used machine:
DON'T BUY IT unless the screen is in good shape.
Once you have it, DON'T wipe the screen much.
Better yet, don't wipe it AT ALL.
The post 2012 retina displays are quite "fragile", and typical user exercises to "keep them clean" may in fact DAMAGE them.
You have to learn how to care for a retina display...

This too is what I would recommend in order for you to get most out of your machine and at least have yourself worry free for a few years especially if you buy Apple Care.
