Hello All,

I purchased a 2015 macbook pro 15' in Dec 2016. Its one of the models with the radeon graphics card which I have heard had many issues.

My understanding is that I can purchase apple care any time before the original 1 year warranty runs out so Dec 2017.

Just want to get opinions on whether or not people think I should get the apple care in light of the history this model has had with the radeon graphics card or not.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I have the exact same model. I bought Apple care last month just a week before expiry of 1yr warranty. Go for it man. Applecare is worth it.

I don't have AppleCare and this model has not had problems for me with over 2 years of hard use. I think they discontinued this model with the AMD graphics because the fan can be so loud it gives the speakers a run for their money.

The 2015 models have yet to show any widespread dGPU issues, whether you buy applecare is your choice of course, but in the US it may be a great option to protect against machine failure. I live in the UK we have great consumer protection up to 5 years and my home insurance covers me against damage.

It's the 2011 models with Radeon graphics that have the issues, the 2015 models are fine.

Thank you for confirming - I didnt realize it was specific to a year I thought all amd radeon models in general werent the best in terms of durability which I realize now sounds pretty stupid.

Would you guys still recommend getting apple care in general for a 2015 ?

Have never had AppleCare on anything. I had a 2011 model and they did a recall on it so it was covered for the issue anyway.

Personally I think it's a waste of money, but some people swear by it so... up to you
