I have a 2015 13" Retina macbook pro that I bought sometime late last year (Sept?). I want to get a newer model when they come out HOPEFULLY in the spring...... When is usually a good time to get rid of the old to buy the new?

Usually I wait until after they are released but feel like that isn't a good choice money wise. I'm excited to see what they do to the MacBook and MacBook Air lines. Im hoping that they just merge and they take the best of both. I had a 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 macbook air which I loved, but ultimately wanted a better screen and a bit more power.

There is nothing wrong with my computer, but with the sale of my current computer, plus a little help from student discounts and apple gift cards I wouldn't mind getting something new.

So, when do you think is a good time? Now?

Thanks!

What are the specifications ? I may be interested in such a system.

Of course, the best time to sell is a few months before any rumors crop up, suggesting the launch dates and specifications of the next generation MBPs.

Its the Base 13"

How long do you want to be without a computer?
It could be a while before the Skylake MBPs get released. I'm not even sure if these chips have been actually released.
Intel's CPU portfolio, release-timeline and roadmap have become so diluted and stretched out, it looks like an inventory-list of a pharmacy specialized in homeopathy...

Of course the longer you wait and the closer to a new model's release date the price will decrease, i.e., more supply of older machines. With that said, why sell is so soon and potentially wait 6 months (say apple releases it in June). I think the small decrease in market value is worth the extra months of enjoyment.

I've been buying Macbook Air and Pros whenever I see a deal and flip them on Craigslist for profit for almost two years now. In my experience, February and March bring the most money because of the tax return season.
