About 2 weeks ago (I think when I updated to MacOS Sierra) the keyboard keys quit being lit when I turned it on.

F6 will cause it to light up (and F5 to dim), but, it won't stay lit. Covering the light sensor (which should cause the keyboard to light up max) doesn't do anything. If I reboot, or shut down then power back up, the keys are not lit again.

Controls are set for automatic, and I'm not sure where else or what else I can go or do.

Is this working as designed with Sierra, or, is there something I need to do to fix?

Thanks.

Is your keyboard's backlight set to turn off after a certain period of inactivity?

Yes, and, after I use F6 to turn it on (and up), it will then turn itself off after x minutes of use. Also, if I reboot, or shutdown and turn on, when the logon screen appears, the keyboard is still not lit, and I have to use F6 again...

After a reboot I have to press F6 to get my keyboard to light back up also.

I just tried the "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" option and it seems to be working okay. I have my keyboard set to automatically turn off after 30 seconds and that seems to be working fine also. BUT...I'm running the newest 10.12.1 beta so it's possible (likely, even) that some of the functionality has been approved in this release.

Have you reset the SMC? That fixed my keyboard backlight staying on after my rMB went to sleep.
