You loved your old 11 inch air so much why not get another one instead of putting up with the slowness of the rMB? It can't handle flash to your standards or scroll through your email fast enough, why put up with it?

Once you go retina Ya can't go back.

The bottom line is that you have to decide what tradeoffs you're willing to accept. Lots of people seem to think that because it's an Apple product, that Jony Ive magically designed it not to have traditional tradeoffs. That's simply not the fact. If you want ultra portability, you have to sacrifice power. If you want power, you have to sacrifice portability.

I personally settled on the 15" for my needs, and while I'd live to have the portability of the 12", I realize that it just won't work for me. If I were on the road more, I'd consider a 13" pro, but that's about as small as I'm willing to accept in terms of tradeoffs.

The truth though, is -

Flash does kill the battery / gives a performance hit, and on retinas (particularly the 12/13 inch) - there is stuttering on the UI, that disabling animations helps (until it actually gets fixed).

Ive owned multiple 13" retinas, and its even on the ones in the store. Even my 2014 15" has UI lag at times (much less than the others though).

Don't take people stating fact/their experience as "apple fanboys."

I'm typing this on a surface pro for god sakes...

Yeah I get that. My main issue is where people say "all is great, everything is fine, apple can do no wrong, it's all YOUR issue, something is wrong with YOU\YOUR laptop" kinda thing when clearly they are in denial of the shortcomings that have been well-documented. It's not like their computer had a 5x processor snuck in so theirs works for things the rest of ours doesn't LOL.

Nothing wrong with a Surface Pro. Those are actually great devices, I really like them. They did a really good job with them. I wish Apple would have looked to them in the way they designed their Macbook because the surface pro has almost the exact same physical specs, while not as many of the sacrifices the rMB has... ports, battery, etc.

yes we are all in denial, we are just a bunch of dumb sheep. Yet instead of standing up for your convictions of how awful the rMB is you go out and get another one, instead of
A. getting a machine that you quoted as saying you loved. the 11" air
B. telling Apple with your wallet how bad the rMB is by not purchasing one.

But no you come on here and insult everybody about being in denial, apple fan boy, or drinking the cool-aid, and in every post possible telling everybody just how gowd awful the rMB is. And how much you regretted getting it.

So who is the is the Apple fan boy? The ones that are happy with their machines and do not have issues with it for the work they use it for, or the guy that has to buy the latest Apple product even though it doesn't meet his needs, and is quoted as saying "so laggy that it's unusable"

You sure seem defensive. I stand by everything I've said. I can't use it for flash anymore.

Not defensive at all. Like I said everything I use the rMB for works the way I expect it to. But then again I don't play Facebook games. If it didn't work for me I would of returned it and just used my 15" rMBP, and waited till the next version to see if it meets my needs.

So why again do you have the rMB, since it doesn't meet your needs.

What part of my long diatribe (lol) didn't you understand? There is currently nothing in the laptop line that makes me completely satisfied with Apple... so I had to chose between the rMB and the rMBP, neither of which are a good fits, so this is the lesser of the two misfits to me.

didn't you use a 11" air for at least the last 3 years, so all of a sudden it will not work for you any more. Yeah I see your response with once you go Retina you never go back. But every post you always say "or maybe go back to a 11" Macbook Air."
So did this once you go Retina you never go back just hit you in the last couple days?

But for somebody who says that the machine is unusable, and has such regrets about purchasing it, I don't understand how you can drop $1300 dollars on a machine that doesn't work for you, when you have been using a machine that apparently has been working just fine for you.

Let me clarify a few things....

- After going from Macbook Air to Retina Macbook in April, I also went from a 2012 iMac 27 to a 5k (retina) iMac 27 in May. So having retina on my primary desktop, and retina on my laptop, it's hard to go back to a non-retina, and especially a sub-standard non-retina screen. What part of any of that is difficult for you to comprehend. If you are raised eating canned crab, and then experience real, fresh crab, it only takes one taste and you never want to go back. It's not a difficult concept.

- I only suggest the Air as an option to be able to hi light its downfall, the screen, to save the responses like yours "well why don't you just..." which clearly it didn't work, since you still say it even though the two aspects I think are most important are screen quality and portability, which I've made painfully clear.

- Regarding the cost ... I'm sorry you don't understand. I generally don't like to be so blatant about it in how I respond, but cost isn't an issue. If I could buy the ideal configuration I'd throw down $4,000 instead of settling for compromise, but unfortunately the limiting factor is the technology at this point, not the cost. Maybe $1300 is worth more to you, but don't assume everyone is in your financial situation. I'm not saying it to be arrogant or condescending, but if someone's primary driver for their Apple purchase is EVER cost, then Apple really isn't the brand for them. A primary driver for an Apple consumer can be many things, but most common is operational performance, quality, or aesthetics (or combination of several). Not many people buy Apple because it's the cheap option. It might be the best value, but that's because of the above one or more attributes. Did I ever bring up any issue with cost in ANY comment I made? Nope. So instead of saying you don't understand how I can drop the cash to try a machine (which by the way I've dropped more like $1900 into my rMB not $1300), read the issues I have, and address those, instead of applying your own values to the decisions I make.

Thanks!

again there you go painting with your broad paint brush just like everybody that doesn't have an issue with the rMB is in denial or drank the kool-aid.

You have no clue of my financial situation, believe me if I couldn't afford apple products I would't buy them. But like you I value what Apple brings to the table.

But unlike you I also stick to my convictions of if the product doesn't work for me then I either stick with what has been working or look elsewhere to find a product that does work for me. Instead of having regrets and complaining about it.

I can't address your issues, because I don't have those issues, but then again I'm just in denial.

Thanks!

Apparently you venture outside the threads that even pertain to the products you own, LOL.

Not sure what is funny about this - I try to help others regardless of what I own.

Sorry it didn't work out for you - maybe just go back to a MBA for now?
