I was hoping this was a settings/preferences issue. When I log in on the guest account, I cannot recreate the problem. It only exists in my admin account??

Just go flag him down! Worth a shot.
UPDATE 2: This is the WEIRDEST thing. I noticed while looking at MBPs in the Apple store how small the mouse pointer was, then I remembered that I had enlarged mine in Accessibility preferences for more easier viewing. A little while ago I had a flash: is it possible that the GPU drivers can't handle redrawing the bigger mouse pointer?

Long story short, resetting the mouse pointer to default size stopped the distortion problem. I went over this several times -- switching the graphics back and forth in Energy Savings, opening files in Pixelmatr and Photoshop that always cause the discrete GPU to fire up (verified by gfxCardStatus) -- none of this made the defect occur!

Was it a coincidence that Apple's diagnostic test found a defect in the prior rMBP's display? Maybe this was a lucky thing, because it might have exhibited worse problems later on?
A real puzzle.

Now, this is not how it should be -- we should be able to change the mouse pointer to any size we want, without issue. So, I can't say for sure that any of us who purchased this machine are out of the woods yet.

Thus, the question to the rest of you is: did you make any changes to the size of your mouse pointer? And if so, does changing it back remove the problem?

I enlarged my cursor as well. Also, I checked increase contrast. Returning both back to default and so far no problems.

I just enlarged my cursor size from the accessibility menu and now my mouse has the same distortion you described. Soon as I set the mouse back to normal there is no distortion at all.

Seems it is indeed a software problem with the cursor size setting. Only happens when the AMD chip is activated though.

I had left my cursor size on normal since the day I got it and never had any distortions until I just increased its size to test it for you.

Much appreciated!

This can cause great frustration for those with Accessibility needs. Apple is eventually going to have to address this. Hopefully a software update will do the trick.

I can't reproduce this. I've turned on the dGPU, made the cursor bigger, switched back to iGPU. The cursor looks normal to me.

As I said yesterday, this is a software problem, I also was using a larger mouse pointer and as soon as I set it back to the default the problem is gone, GREAT FINDINGS!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH

I do not think it's related to the AMD chip, because if you deactivate the auto switching in system preferences, means only the AMD chip will operate, then there will be no switching and the problem will be gone.

From my perspective the problem happens when there is switch in the video cards, for example when I open Pixelmator (and start using the AMD chip) the problem will occur, but also when I close Pixelmator (and start using the Iris Pro chip) the problem will occur again.

I could only make the distortion appear when I moved the mouse around a few times on the main display, not on an external. Maybe try that. It occurred almost instantly for me. But this definitely seems to be a software glitch.

I cannot get it to happen on Iris Pro, only on the AMD chip.

Most welcome.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Good news: the mouse pointer/cursor does not have to be at the smallest setting (really tiny) to still be usable. I was able to slide the sizer to halfway between the first two tick marks without incident. Pointer is now just big enough to be almost comfortable for viewing, and the problem is not reoccurring.

I tried and it works, this is really weird????

Weird is right. It's true that the pointer has to constantly switch between cursor and pointer depending on what you are hovering over, but that doesn't explain why it should start freaking out if you increase the size beyond a certain point.

Like Quu said, it's a software issue. Maybe Apple's engineers overlooked Accessibility when writing the driver code for this new AMD rMBP.
