My 2016 has a swollen battery bad enough that it's popping the bottom off my machine. No idea if I can get that fixed or not but I live and die by my machine so I cannot afford to be without it. The local repair shop needs it for a few weeks.. hahahaha.. I can't have my machine gone like that. So.. so.. I'd rather wait for new machines if I had my choice.. but I don't feel comfortable having this distended case wobble battery bulge..

Coming from the 2016 15" -- a decked out 16" is bit too big and damn too pricey for something on its way out. A refurbed 2020 13" seems on point but I'm worried about the 13" aspect. Granted I external monitor one atm and thinking of getting another or upsizing at some point so maybe I shouldn't care about the size. Current monitor is more of a kicker and I use the computer with KVM/full on peripherals & external drives.

Thoughts?
GPU thoughts?

Use: video editing / Davinci / FCPX, vfx / blender

So I just went from a 2015 15" w/ AMD swollen battery computer to a 2020 10th gen, i5 13". It is the best Mac I have ever owned! I do not miss the 15" size and the CPU single core, is very fast. The Iris Plus G7 GPU is also surprisingly fast. I am a fan of X-Plane 11 and I can get a much better frame rate on the 2020 13" than the 2015 15" AMD!

If you decide to go with the 2020 13" , make sure you go with the 10th gen! (Great speakers also!)

The swelling battery is a pretty easy fix. If you are in the US, it's $199 to replace the battery, and you get a new keyboard. If you are having any keyboard issues, you may even get it for free depending on when you purchased your system. You call Apple, they send you a box. You put the computer in the box and it goes to them overnight. They do the service. And they overnight it back to you. In many cases, you can get the system back in less than 72 hours. If you are outside the US, I imagine Apple has pretty rapid repair infrastructure in your area as well, but cannot speak to specifics.

On the refurb page, there will be a statement with each system saying "originally released in ____(date)"

If you use an external monitor most of the time consider adding an eGPU and you’ll have the best of both worlds.

The 10th gen 13 inch would be one released in 2020, with 4 thunderbolt ports. If it has only 2 ports, it’s an 8th gen.

Also, since you are going from a 2016, the 2020 MBP 13 has the improved keyboard also!

However, under full Load (like Benchmarks), both will sit at around 3,1 Ghz.

1.4 Ghz or 2.0 Ghz doesn't mean ANYTHING at all, unless you use "Intel Turbo Boost Switcher", to disable the Turbo (saving battery, less heat etc).
