I have a 2016 12" MacBook that I swapped out the 2016 logic board with a 2017 logic board (the 2017 12" MacBook it came out of had a cracked screen and the 2016 12" MacBook logic board was bad). I am wondering if Apple would be able to repair it under the keyboard replacement recall (from your past experience), given that Apple does not like it when third parties repair Apple devices.

Edit: I am in the US, if that changes anything. I think Hugh Jeffreys managed to pull off the same thing, but I don't know if that's because he's in Australia.
 
Honestly, nobody will be able to tell you a definite answer. If you have an Apple store / Authorised service centre near you, I would just book it in for a repair and see what they say. Worst case scenario they say no. Just don't tell them you've had a logic board replacement, for all they know, you bought it like that. However, in my experience when I had my keyboard replaced on my 2017 Macbook, they checked the serial on the casing to ensure my device was elegible. If your casing has a 2016 serial then it might cause an issue as those are outside of the keyboard warranty period of 4 years. You could still argue it's a 2017 model and tell them to check the system settings.

Hell, I even got refused a repair just because I changed the shell of my iPhone to a different colour.
 
Well, if you try, I’d be sure to have the 2017 bottom case on, so the serials match. I’m not sure how they’d tell the rest didn’t match, as long as the part numbers didn’t change.

The issue is that the original shell is gold, but the current shell is rose gold
 
Ahhh. Maybe check the area on the 2016 bottom shell, perhaps the serial number is no longer visible. Do the rest of the internals look identical? Were there major changes from 2016-7 or was it just a processor bump?

I think it was a processor bump and a RAM speed bump. Also I think the bezel text changed from the old font to San Francisco and the keyboard lacks the 2017 revision symbols
 
Yeah, it looks like the keyboard changed as well. I think you could try, but it will be apparent that you have a Franken-book as soon as they open the case, or power on the machine. They could still offer to help out of the kindness of their hearts: they repaired the keyboard on my wife’s machine, but noted liquid damage and didn’t repair that when we dropped it off.

Out of curiousity, did you tell them you changed the casing, or did they find out themselves?
 
With all the time talking about it, I think you should just try and find out for sure!
