Hello guys and gals,

My 2009 iMac is ready for replacement and I have decided to go back to having a laptop.

I don't do anything overly taxing with my iMac with it's main use being serving iTunes content to ATV, web browsing and email however I have recently started using sketchup (free edition) to design furniture and was wondering whether anyone had any experiences using this software and what the performance was like on any of the 2016 Retina Macbook?

I have been waiting for the Macbook Pro refresh but quite like the look of the Retina Macbook.

Thanks.

It should be ok but may throttle with extended use.

Here are the requirements.

  • Recommended hardware
    • 2.1+ GHz Intel™ processor.
    • 8 GB RAM.
    • 700 MB of available hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 1GB MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 2.0 or higher and up to date.
SketchUp's performance relies heavily the graphics card driver and it's ability to support OpenGL 2.0 or higher. Historically, people have seen problems with Intel-based cards with SketchUp. We don't recommend using these graphics cards with SketchUp at this time.

    • Some SketchUp features require an active internet connection.
  • Minimum hardware
