This problem started a few months ago and is really annoying me. Nothing showed up on Google so hopefully someone here has a fix.

Basically, when my Touchbar on my 2016 MacBook Pro goes blank (typically from leaving it idle), there is a flashing square right next to the Touch ID sensor. As seen in the video.

Still under warranty?
Applecare?

If so, take it to a brick-n-mortar Apple Store, show them this video...

No, the warranty has expired.

Probably worth taking it in anyways, worst case I get a quote to fix it, best case it is a known issue they'll fix outside of warranty.

Thanks

It will cost you a lot b/c the Touchbar is included in the bottom case assembly so Apple will quote a price for the case, trackpad, battery, keyboard and Touchbar all together.

Per hamilton's post 4 above -- that will run $700+ (sigh)

My opinion only, but if the issue is "the touchbar only"... the cost of the repair may not be worth it...

[doublepost=1524939144][/doublepost]I have the same exact problem. Unfortunately my 2016 MacBook is out of warranty and no Apple Care. I was hoping it was a software issue. Once I use the trackpad or hit any key, it goes away. It only occurs when I have left the computer idle for a few minutes. It is only annoying and maybe not worth a $700 repair. I will probably wait for new MacBooks to come out. My son bought the same computer and so far he doesn't have this problem. Thanks for the post!

Hi,

i have the same problem. does someone found a solution?

they cannot just change keyboard, has to be entire top case. I’d send it in With Stated reason of keyboard issue only.
