I bought a 13" TB MacBook Pro this time last year and over the last week or so, the space bar has stopped working about 25% of the time, particularly when I hit it on the lower half, rather than the top half.

I feel the traction, but it just doesn't register.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I tried to ignore it at first and see if I could get on with it/train my finger to aim for the top of the key, but typing is becoming unbearable.

Does anyone have any idea how Apple might deal with this, as it's not 100% broken?

I purchased the laptop on the 22nd November last year, so I assume my warranty is about to run out.

Does anyone know why you wouldn't ask Apple that question? You have a warranty, why aren't you using it?

I'm waiting to hear back from them. I was told I'd need to book a genius bar appointment in order for someone to take a look at it, but the soonest appointment wasn't until the end of the week when the warranty is expired. No one could offer more help than that, so they've said someone else will call me tomorrow.

I just wondered how helpful Apple are with 'minor' defects, and if anyone else has had this issue.

I had a similar problem with my left shift key which worked well when pressing towards the left edge but not so responsive on the right side. Took it into Apple and they gave the key a blast of compressed air and vacuum and now key works perfectly. He said these new keyboards tend to build residue underneath so you need to keep them clean.

Do you have a ticket number assigned? Call Applecare if you do not, and get a case started.

We are going to have so many threads like this as the 2016/2017 models age.

Everyone, make sure you buy extra AppleCare for these machines.

DON'T WAIT!
Call Apple TODAY or go to the Apple Store TODAY (even if you don't have a genius bar appt. today) and talk to them about it.

You snooze.... YOU LOSE!

A failed keyboard will cost around $700 to replace!

Welcome to the world of failed keyboards. Get ready for a couple of top case replacements coupled with enormous frustration.

I had the same thing, except the space bar on mine never registered.
There was no way to put any space between the words.

Took mine to the store and got a new one.

It all happened on day one.
