I don't miss it in the office. At home, I do miss it. But the battery almost always lasts long enough that I don't need to connect it. For those cases when I do want to charge at home, I ordered the MagNeo.

What is amazing about USB-C for me, is: being able to charge on both sides. And being able to charge with nearly anything: I regularly charge my MacBook overnight with an iPad charger!

Not especially.

The cable on the MagSafe chargers was incredibly poorly built. I went through one a year or so for the past five years because they kept splitting apart and fraying at the end. Not only were these $80 a pop to replace, but because they are proprietary, there were no cheaper third-party options either.

For the past year or two on my .............

Proprietary? I've never used anything but a Lavolta 3rd party charger with my MBP, and it only cost £40. Maybe I'm not understanding you properly.

I thought I would miss it.. but the fact that you insert cable on both sides makes up for it.

I've been using USB-C for over a year (Nexus 6p) so I was one of the few that welcomed the new ports.

What I do miss is the battery indicator.

But I like the speed, versatility and overall quality of USB-C better. Also, when I used past MacBooks in bed, sometimes when I thought it was charging, it was actually disconnected. That hasn't happened with the more secure connection.

Overall, I'm happy with the change.

I don't own one, but use a couple of late 2016 MBPs at work. To me, the convenience of being able to charge via any port does not outweigh the undeniable benefits MagSafe provided. Cords fraying? What the hell are you doing to them?! Haven't tripped over one? More like you haven't tripped over one yet. Connector popping out? Never had that issue in all the time and machines I've been around.

YMMV, I guess.

I'm pretty gentle with mine. It didn't fray, but the covering deteriorated so that the bare wire showed. There are lots of reports of this in reviews of replacements at Amazon and elsewhere.

I miss the safety aspect of the Magsafe & the charge light. I do not miss having to buy a new power supply overtime the cable frayed or only being able to plug it in on one side. The Magsafe did save my MBP a couple of times when my dog got tangled in the cord. More often than not though it was me accidentally pulling the cord off accidentally which went away with the USB-C cable. I guess I have mixed feelings. I'm sure I will get used to the USB-C and just be more careful about the dog.

I currently have the 2015 15" and magsafe is a brilliant idea and works very well. For me, it's not something I ever had in the past so it's easy to be without it, I don't like that it's only 1 sided (wrong side actually for me). I do believe that the best thing I like about magsafe is the indicator light that turns green to let me know it's fully charged.

I think if Apple had somehow patented the 2016 USB-C by including a ready indicator light it would not only have been revolutionary something no one has done before and all would want to copy but it would have also made a lot of Apple users who were use to magsafe happier with the USB-C.

The MBP has gone into stealth mode. No sleep light, no charging light.

Yes the magsafe cables were absolutely shoddy to begin with. The fraying of the insulation also happened to me twice after one year exactly. The first time I bought a new power brick. The second time I started to look for other options and ended up with some kind moldable silicone/rubber called Sugru. So far this has worked out quite well for me, I basically put this stuff over the breaking insulation and some critical parts and it works like day zero. No more splitting and fraying anymore. Downside is this stuff is hilariously expensive for what it is, but in the end, way cheaper than buying another magsafe adapter because Apple refuses to fix their insulation problem they have had for years now.

I've only just heard of this brand, and from what I can tell they are almost exclusively available in the UK. I'm in the US, and no US retailers have them (except very few eBay importers). My understanding is the MagSafe design is/was patented in the United States and not licensed to anyone else, so none of the major third party accessory makers made them. Pretty much all the third-party MacBook chargers I've seen are Chinese knockoffs of dubious and flammable quality.

I don't miss it at all. Apple most likely had to get rid of MagSafe to 1) make the computer slimmer and 2) because USB-C is the new universal port. If I had to choose between MagSafe and being able to charge my Mac using any port, I'd choose the latter. But I do understand why many don't feel the same.

Actually charging from any port is a huge plus. The fraying/splitting problem on the magsafe partially was causes by having the charge port on the left side, while in my situation I charge 90% of the time from the right hand side. Causing the cable to be bent severely constantly. As for magsafe. Over time there will be good USB-C magnet adapters which will allow us to retrofit something magsafe like if you need it.

It's a useability / convenience factor, pros and cons as shown by the users replying here. For me, yes I miss it , it was one of those "apple" features that made the use of the MacBook Pro special.

its purpose was to avoid your machine hitting the floor, I expect many here to say they are okay with it being removed, until such time the MacBook Pro is damaged and not covered under AppleCare. Just takes one incident to make it very clear why MagSafe is a great invention, 99.999999% of the other time, who needs it right ?

The Magsafe-type USB-C adapters I've seen (for those who liked the safety factor of Magsafe) are getting it wrong...having a big, bulky plug. They should leave the plug alone and put the magnetic connector a few inches away on the cable...like a rat in a snake.

Not really. I'm indifferent. Magsafe also used to disconnect too easily sometimes and that was quite annoying at times too. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about fraying wires on the charger as if that happens, I can just buy another cable rather than having to buy a new adapter. I did trip over the wire once though with my laptop hitting the floor as a result but except that, don't really miss it that much.

I didn't know Lavolta don't sell in the US. From almost two years of use, and accepting other opinions, I would say the Lavolta is of perfectly good quality. Sure it's Chinese, just like the original charger and just about every electrical item in my home, including all my computers, tablets, and chargers.
