I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 15" Retina and do occasional gaming (Overwatch) on boot camp and was wondering if this computer can support a 144hz monitor (or perform optimally) or is it even worth it. Most 144hz monitors I've seen that are in the budget range will only have VGA, DVI, and HDMI so I'm not sure what my limitations are. I generally play on the lowest settings and it's perfectly fine. Just wanted to get that faster response time and have a decent external monitor as I currently just have a basic 24" 60hz 1080p monitor using HDMI.

Yes - 15" w/460 works fine on my ASUS PG278Q at high refresh (can't remember if it did 120 or 144 tbh).

Laptop cant reach stable 144 fps in overwatch anyways, so probably better with 120hz screen
