Hi all.

Having an issue & I'm not sure how to describe properly but just 4 days ago I bought a base model 13" 2016 MBP non touch bar. I upgraded from a 2011 11.6 inch air. The air just seems like it was quicker and snappier in every way.

The main thing I have noticed is when I scroll through my albums with photos in them on the air the scrolling is butter smooth but on the new pro it is laggy and stutters. Same thing with browsing web pages, on the air Chrome scrolls smoothly but on the Pro it lags and is choppy. Safari on the Pro seems fine though.

I tried to make a YouTube video of me scrolling through my photos but it doesn't translate too well in the video but ill post it anyway.

I tried to book a Genius Bar appt but my local store continuously says no available appointments and the other stores are too far. Wondering if I should just swap it out for another as I'm still within my 14 days?

Any suggestions what could cause this stutter / lag? thanks in advance

Certain animations are an issue on the retina screens there has been a certain amount of this with every retina machine Apple makes it seems to be a software bug they can't sort out. Same with the coding on chrome on macs has been piss poor for years.

If I swap it out for another unit am I likely to still run into the exact same problem? my partners base spec 2015 retina has zero issues with scrolling / lag. I also noticed when I scroll through the activity monitor it lags like hell too. Not happy that for the price I paid it seems slower than my 6 year old air :/

swap it out.

i get no lag with mine either with chrome, activity monitor or photos. in fact photo is so much faster compared to the mba

Ok thanks I'll swap it out on Tuesday when I have a day off. Does the 14 day return period restart when I get the new one? just worried incase the new one has issues also.

I noticed this on the 13" TB MBP yesterday in the Apple Store.

I was using it and my honest perception was that it was underperforming compared to my base 2015 rMB. Something it definitely should not be doing. iMovie was laggy and animations choppy. I restarted it too, but the problem remained. It also had the minor graphical glitches on boot that I believe 10.12.2 was supposed to fix.

I went in with the intention of making my final 'yes' decision to buy one to use with my 4K screen, but it seemed to be struggling with its own screen. I can pick up a new 13" TB for £1,250 w/ 3 year warrantee, but even at that price I'm concerned about its performance.

Ok cool it will be going back for a swap over as soon as I get time. If the next one does the same thing I'll get a refund and stick with my 6 year old MBAir :/

jksu, any chance you can post a video of how yours scrolls through a large album of photos or any files?

also i just wanted to mention when i scroll through photos using the 'photos' app pre installed on the mac they scroll through and load smooth and fast. Its just when using finder for some reason to scroll through any files it lags like crazy

I have the ntMBP but with 16gb of ram and 512gb ssd. Mine does similar to yours if I decide to browse through large libraries of photos on finder.

I do think it is due to the computer retrieving the information from the ssd, and rendering the preview picture. However, once it has been rendered, it does not lag as much.

Interestingly, if you do decide to view the files in finder using the coverflow view, it does not lag.

Mine does it the same amount whether in cover flow or not :( also does it in list view too which would have no pre rendering of the picture. I could accept it if my less powerful MBA did it too but it doesn't so it is indeed very strange. Now that I have copied all my files over to my computer (previously was 5000 files now up to 20,000) the lag when trying to scroll through is unbearable.

Anyway its going back for an exchange during the week and if the replacement is the same unfortunately that will go back for a refund.

Same exact specs, similar results ... it has improved though. Def exchange it. I'm not experiencing as much lag and I don't think the extra RAM/SSD should make THAT big of a difference.
