Hello all,

I've had my new 15'' MBP for a couple of weeks now, and I love it. I'm coming from a 2011, 15'' MBP that had two 3.5mm jacks: one for input, one for output. I would sometimes plug my guitar into the input using a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and record using Garage Band or Logic Pro. Now, the 2016 models only have one jack, does anyone know if it also works as an input?

Thanks!

Try a headset (headphone/microphone set) with the 4 conductor mini-plug - like one from an iPhone 6S or older. Plug that in to the audio jack, then check in the Sound pref pane to see if a new audio input shows up.

If not, you will likely need an external USB sound card.

Yeah when I plug in a headset with microphone, the input switches to "External Microphone - Microphone port". I guess I'll have to plug in my guitar and find out if it works as well.

You would just need the right connector, as the headset connector has an extra ring for the mic connection.
