That's the fun of living in a community property state--doesn't much matter whose account it is ;)

I've got a new 27" iMac with the i7 upgrade coming but I could only stretch to 512SSD. Has anyone seen or done any test (or personal experience) on how much working off an external HDD while editing 4K video might hinder performance. I know apple claims 5 streams of 4K multicam (we'll see), but on an external drive?

Was considering this
LaCie 8TB d2 Thunderbolt 3 Desktop Hard Drive with USB-C

Thunderbolt 3 but not SSD, seems like a good compromise to the extra £500+ for another 512gig of internal SSD. Obviously the software and OS will be on the SSD.

2017 27" i5 3.8 GHz 1TB SSD

Read = about 2039
Write = about 2300

A lot faster than the 2017 2TB FD model I just returned, which had a read of about 746 and a write of about 1700 - 1900 with most of the drive empty. with the drive half full, it brought the read speed down into the 400s.

Oh wow.. that is a big drop..

Good day! I want to replace nvme ssd in my 2017 i7-7700K imac. Three concerns...
1. 2TB is okkay, right?
2. Does 2017 imac utilize PCIe 4.0 nvme ssd..? (e.g. Samsung 980 PRO)
3. It's okkay if I remove completely the sata side, right?

Thanks!
