Yeah I want to wait, but I feel the next update will not be a huge one maybe a faster processor or ram upgrade. Guess my trip to Hawaii is wanting me to get the iPad soon since I go in a few weeks. I hear some people say they won't update the iPad line until fall.

$100 off the Pro 9.7 is decent, but hardly exceptional now.

Hell, when BB was stacking two discounts amounting to $225 off last year...I still opted to return my pro 9.7. And I have zero regret.

Gotta know when the time is right.

You think it's the right time? they are doing 599 for 128 gb and i can get 150 off more with the trade in my old iPad since best buy will give a gift card to use.

I was only able to get $175 off last year, how did they do $225 off the 9.7 Pros?

EDIT: actually it was the 32GB 9.7 Pro that was $225 off last year. I bought one, and returned it in favor of 128GB :)

Nope, that $225 off was across all models. I bought the 256gb wifi-only and returned it to my local BB unopened, when it came in the mail.

IIRC, it was $125 sale off and a $100 student discount

I nixed keeping it on account of the so-so battery life (mainly).

32gb is too low or storage for some people. My kid (4.5 years old). A few apps consume 16gb already.

I have her on the 64gb iPad Air (2013) wifi model.

I'm just gonna to suck it up. Trade it in for $166 Best Buy gift card plus $25 gift card. And get the $429 iPad (2017) 128gb model.

64gb seems to be the sweet spot for storage for 98% of consumers. So that's why Apple doesn't offer 64gb anymore. Gotta love the Apple tax going from 32 to 128gb

At the same time, if they made a 64gb model...where would they position it?

32gb base followed by 64gb (mid) and a 128gb (top) makes even less sense.

No, 32gb and 128gb is right. Works for the iphones and also the iPads.

At $100 difference going from 32GB ($329) to 128GB ($429) and the new lower price point, I'm not gonna nitpick. This is better storage-wise than what we had a year ago (16GB/$399 and 64GB/$499).

As for 64GB being the sweet spot for 98% consumers, I'm curious how you even came up with that. In our household, 3/4 are more than okay with 32GB and one of them would be fine even with 16GB. My aunt's household, they're all fine with 32GB and 2/3 are fine with 16GB.

I have an iPad 2 and iPad 3 I would like to trade in at Best Buy. I can only find one 30 pin connector and charger. Does BB deduct from the trade in if they are missing?

Also both iPads are in near new condition with a VERY small almost unnoticeable dent near the lock switch on the side and they have a few aluminum chips from being in a case.

Do they deduct much for that as well? I was looking at the trade in values on their site and in good condition the iPad 2 trades in at $100 and the iPad 3 $134.

The more I think about this, the less I like it.

Yes, this is an updated Air1 with a 2015 CPU. But everything else just is meh!

Only for the budget conscious.

Apple has the internal data.

For years they knew 32gb was the sweet spot. So the base was never 32gb.

Than with growing apps. They knew tjey couldn't justify 16gb as base. Now it's 32gb since iPad Pro 12.9.

Why do you think Apple doesn't offer a 64gb option any more?

New iPad or Air 2. The Air 1 was never really a great iPad and less so now.

Perhaps not in your eyes. However, do not underestimate the market that will purchase this entry level device. I ordered one for my wife to replace her Air 1. The Air 1 met all her needs until 10.2. The A7 is sluggish. She would never use the Features/Apps that require a Pro. Her iPad is a media consumption device. Everything else she does on her Mac. We know quite a few people in the same group of consumers. My Mom uses her original Mini every day to simply look at images of her family we load on it for her. Outdated piece of hardware that meets a certain consumer group just fine.

This was a savvy move on Apples part no matter how much I dislike admitting it. They will sell millions. iPads will never be more than Media Consumption Devices. :apple:

LOL, yea, not your typical Apple Customer, eh, Budget?

The A9 processor is a late (September 2015) model. It's 18 months old. People try to make it look old. But it's a huge improvement RAM (2gb) compared to A7 processor

Will air 1 cases be compatible? I love the leather case I have.

From what I can tell, the 2017 no longer has the physical mute button and the Volume up / down are laid out differently compared to the iPad Air 1 (they're the same as the iPad Air 2), so it depends on your exact case (my hard plastic Logitech case for instance has cutouts that do not fit the new button layout).

The Ars Technica review has some nice pictures that show the differences clearly:

The otterbox case for the air 1 works for my new iPad 2017 minus the Touch ID and volume controls. There are work around though. I got a good deal on it and will use it until the secondary market catches up. I need a good case as I drop stuff a lot.
