I like it! (But please translate what this could possibly mean?) :D

Apple is pissing against the wind for vanity. I think Samsung had the most practical solution with a removable textured plastic back: 1) It allows access to a removable battery, 2) If it gets scratched, replace the cheap back cover, 3) no need to use a bulky protective sleeve to prevent scratches to the back of the phone. All very practical and utilitarian features but very un-Apple and un-Ive.

Exactly. It is as it should be. Samsung can keep their design.

Zirconian Ceramics. Also, they can be made into virtually any color. The new AW Edition ceramic, I believe, will be a test run to see if this material is everything they hope it can be.

https://www.quora.com/What-will-the-iPhone-8-be-made-of

Personally, I think the iPhone 6, 6s, and 7, are the worst iPhone designs after the beauty we saw with the iPhone 4.

The ceramic watch is so expensive, though, I don't know how it would translate to a phone... Also, I know taste is subjective but I will never understand the adoration for the 4. I much preferred the design of the 3GS and the 5 after that iteration.

Let's at least agree Apple needs to get rid of the ugly chin of the iphones. There is no reason why it must be so large by today's technological standards.

Well, other rumours have the bezels disappearing next year, so that should happen.

Ugh. The 7 is the first iPhone I didn't buy right away. Now I'm even getting worried about the 8. How big will the one with the best camera be? Will I need to buy an iPhone the size of an iPad Mini? They are starting to discriminate against people that don't want a gigantic iPhone.

If they get rid of the bezels, the 'Plus' version will be more like the size of the regular 6/7 anyway. I doubt Apple will introduce a model larger than that.

What's ironic is that if you've seen any leaks of next week's 10/4 launch of the new "Google branded" Pixel phones, according to all rumors, they're an exact copy of the standard iPhone front including huge bezels. (It's pretty funny considering these new Google phone's don't even contain a home button.) What do you know, competitors copying iPhone to drive sales... where have we heard that before? What's better is that Apple's "supposedly" planning on shifting away from the home button in the iPhone 8.

Nice, this is the one to be looking for, not the iPhone7. iPhone7 is already done, selling, the hype is coming down rapidly and in 2-3 months it'll be just another iPhone, like the 6 or 6S, no one will be paying attention anymore. People will be like "iPhone7? mehhhh next!!!" :D

The 2017 iPhone thoughhhhh will be the real deal :D the true new iPhone people will want ;) and will be talking after new year.

And I guess the pricing difference will also be a test run?

The AW Edition ceramic is over-priced at a premium right now (hence, the "Edition" price). If Apple can get production costs down, it makes the most sense to replace aluminum. Zirconia ceramic is 4x stronger than stainless steel, won't interfere with radio waves (goodbye ugly antenna bands), won't scratch, and can be made into any color.

I hate huge bezels. It's the worst part of the iphone's design (and any other phone). Took them 10 years, but I'm glad Apple will finally reduce the bezels (we hope). Regarding Google's efforts, go find a picture of Google's last year phone the Nexus 6P. It too had humungous bezels. So if anything they started copying iphone's design last year, not this year.

I don't like the jet black iPhone because it has a "shiny" finish. How pathertic would that be.

I like the jet black iPhone 7 becuase it's the first iPhone for years that I can comfortably hold without having to put it in a case which adds bulk and weight. Whatever they've coated it with has a more tactile and less slippery feel to it than the other iPhone 7 models.

iPhone 4 had a glass back and front and people still used covers and sleeves to protect because despite being glass, it still scratched.

Practicality be damned :p

yes, There's really nothing wrong with plastic for devcie build. Many plastics, can be, and are strong and robust, in fact, many will hold paint better than metals, and will resist bending, and cracking better than soft metals.

however. the in hand feel often just doesn't feel as premium, regardless of how well the phone itself is made.

in 2016, we want premium feeling if we're spending $900 on a phone. If I were buying "fleet" devices, the more robust plastic devices would be what I deploy, But if i'm buying for personal use, I'm going to buy the device that looks and feels more premium.

Samsung learned this with their flagships in the S6. Tey still offer plenty of cheaper, plastic options for such users, but for those of us who like premium glass and metals. Apple has almost always known this, at least since the 4 series.

Liquid metal is classified as a ceramic ;)

Apple has been patenting mass manufacturing processes for liquid metal for years now. This is all to leads up to next year.

http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/liquidmetal/

LiquidMetal is also know as "Metallic Glass" so it would fit with the "glass iPhone" rumors.

It would indeed be the perfect material for the iPhone. LiquidMetal can have a Jet Black like shiny finish but would be unscratchable, and would make the iPhone would be virtually unbendable and undentable (it's 2x stronger than Titanium).

From what I've read, the current problem with LiquidMetal is that the materials used to create it are too expensive. But it could be done with cheaper materials while still retaining all its characteristics, once they find the right combination.

Well, what you've read was regarding all the previous efforts to work with the material. Yes it's going to be expensive, but there's certainly a reason apple has pour R&D money into the actual manufacturing processes to make it workable. This is going to be one of those differentiators that only Apple has the ability to due because of the costs involved.

One of the massive benefits of liquid metal besides it's physical characteristics? It's completely transparent to RF signals.

Because the 7 herbs and spices recipe is a secret.

Give us DLC coating for the new jet black steel phone, use similarly hard particles for the other colours.

As for the screen tech being reserved for the 8+ - Apple keeps pulling that 5#!^ and they're only going to piss more of us off. Given the lack of love for the Mac line, if they keep treating the smaller form factors as less desirable there'll be a lot of formerly loyal customers hitting the tipping point and looking elsewhere.

Give us the products we want dammit! The gouging for margin is getting more than a little unpalatable.

I think the point is that you shouldn't have to have a huge phone (which a lot of people, like myself, don't like) to have the best features. The M3 is essentially the same size as any other 3-series, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
However you choose to look at it. The 7 Series has a lot more features than the 3 series. They look a bit different so lets go with Audi. They are all virtually identical in all but size but you get a v8 in the RS6 and not the RS3/4.

High end models will get, will be used on high end models, probably only on high end models, high end models hig end models....

What about the 4.7 models? All though these are all just rumors I sure hope Apple will make a all screen 4.7 device, both for the 4.7 model as well as for the higher end models. Intresting to rad that Apple might end up with even three models. But it will be a shame if the 4.7 models will only get a chip update and that the "ral" goodies will go to the so clled high end models.

Look, I'm just an consumer and Apple is entitled to do whatever they want to do with their iPhone range, but I find the plus models simply to big and I'll stay with the 4.7 models and I think it will be a mistake to focus only on the higher end plus models.

Oh so Apple is brining back the iPhone 4 design in 2017.

Was a gorgeous phone. SJ influence is so strong they have to go back almost a decade in design to stay good.

Liquidmetal!! This is the 10th anniversary iphone dammit! We will accept nothing less! Heh heh heh
