The 2017 macbook has a variation of the second generation butterfly keys. meaning they use the same switches as the macbook pro, but they have a bit less travel. Still they are a great improvement over the 2016 model, much more tactile.

Just picked up a 2017 Macbook and also have a 2016 Macbook Pro 13". The Macbook is FAR improved from the first generation keyboard (I hated it so much I sold mine within 90 days) BUT is not quite as good as the current Macbook Pro's. As the poster above noted, it may be the same butterfly mechanism but has a bit less key travel.

For me, though, it's good enough and I absolutely love the portability of the Macbook and think it's an utterly fantastic machine!
